*sound of desperate sighs* ...Tommy, I'll give you one chance to turn this moment back. Are you going to do the plan of Not-Rattman just explained, or helping your friends survive this? I know you're one naive man, dreaming about saving everybody while killing others, but we're talking about the team's future here. If you successfully do your plan, you'll leaving all of us to rot away inside this facility in stasis.
It is... fortunate, I am in this body. I can make use of proper...ly formed human vocal chords to explain.
[G-Man sighs again, seeming to let a little tension out of ‘his’ shoulders. He offers Tommy a small smile.]
We are... a doomed timeline. Something, somehow, caused Dr. Gordon Freeman to be hired by Aperture Science instead of Black Mesa. This small change, I have been told, means that humanity will be entirely wiped out within the next fifty years, or at least will eventually die out in slavery to an alien race.
By being present here, Dr. Freeman has disrupted the sequence of events in Aperture as well. Without interference, this week’s incident with the DOS would not have occurred. Saving lives, yes, in the moment -- but everyone who proceeded to leave this facility that day would be dead by now, including Dr. Freeman and his son, as well as Miss Poder.
Without GLaDOS closing up the facility, and it staying that way, the aliens headed to this plane of existence would discover it. They would strip it, repurpose all of its technology. Miss Dubuk would not be able to come back to herself. Nor would any of the others.
Our... intentions, were to make sure the GLaDOS incident occurred, and that Gordon Freeman and Chell Poder survived it. Gordon Freeman must make his way to Xen, and defeat a great evil, and afterwards the two must survive the next... oh, ten to twenty years. In the Prime timeline, we ensure this by putting Dr. Freeman into stasis, while Miss Poder grows up in Aperture.
Correct. Miss Poder, upon reaching the age of eighteen, will be forced to begin testing. Her actions ultimately lead to the presumed destruction of GLaDOS. Then she goes into stasis, with the aid of Doug Rattmann, and I’m afraid after that I do not know. I was told, however, that setting up these events correctly will allow Miss Dubuk to return to her senses, or at least regain her memories.
