It had been only a few minutes since Holly had appeared to him, arriving from nowhere and telling him there was someone in the forest who needed him. No details, as always, just a vague warning and a finger pointing in the right direction before she once again disappeared into the beyond.
Both hands hold fistfuls of fabric, skirts hiked up to his knees as Elwyn climbed over the overgrowth at a pace just shy of running, pumpkin eyes darting around for an idea of exactly where he was needed. It was only when he reached one of the fallen trees, climbing over it with mud on his hands and staining his once clean dress, that the smell hits him.
It’s one he’s become horrifically used to over the years, but even so it makes his stomach turn in knots. Elwyn didn’t even bother trying to be elegant as he came closer, sliding down the muddy mound to the woman, his familiar already circling around her in large laps.
