The fire was warm.
It wasn’t as though Zelda hadn’t gotten used to long days of traveling and the soreness that accompanied it, but even so, she was grateful when Link agreed to stop for the night and make camp. The Rito village was still a good bit away, and the wind was beginning to take on the inklings of a chill that slipped under Zelda’s cloak and mused the strands of her short hair.
How very different traveling was these days in comparison to her old life, more than a century ago. Yet her stomach was full, her horse content, and her companionship...pleasant.
She hadn’t meant to fall asleep leaned against Link’s shoulder, the small wooden bowl from dinner still held loosely in her hands. Truly. But, well. Their food sat heavy in her stomach and they had traveled for hours without pause, and the campfire made such a calming crackle against the quiet night, and it was so very warm.

➦ with the sun setting upon the resevoir where VAH RUTA slept, mipha stood by the outpost just shy of the pier, hands raised & palm flat towards the divine beast. focus ; this would take every ounce of attention from the zora champion. color swarms as the machine slowly sets it truck upwards, body trembling before the slow descent of submersion. topaz eyes glint against the final rays of the day, almost illuminant by a fierce nocturnal regard. it was becoming late, & poor mipha had yet to return to castle town to report her training results.
as the final remnants of the beast fell beneath the surface, so did the daylight, the low glow of settling dusk keeping the sky a warm shade of purple as night crept in. this might be an issue, were it not for her princess training by her father. even if hoards of ganon’s forces would spawn on her trip back, mipha would be entirely capable of handling her own.
however, that didn’t seem to quell the kingdom’s worries. as if on cue, the jostle of metals chimes with the silver clinks of mipha’s headdress, that which sways as her gaze turns to the source. ❛ - link ? - ❜ having not expected company, the champion fumbles two fussy steps backwards in shock, hand folding fingers in as it ushers timidly to her crest.
❛ - when did you arrive ? . . . n- nevermind that, actually ; did king rhoam send you ? - ❜
frail & sweet as princess mipha may be, in battle she remained a resilient soldier with the composure of a leading guard captain. she never understood why the king felt the need to send reinforcements, but if it made him feel like their future was being kept secure, she wouldn’t hesitate to oblige. sensing the duty of the knight reporting in, mipha lowered her lightscale trident -—- pointing it down as not to threaten him inadvertedly.
❛ - adese, link . - ❜ her voice carries a softer tone to it, an aura of care shrouding her warmth. still keeping her regality in addressals, mipha holsters her trident behind her back, hands properly free of responsibility for the moment. ❛ - i at least hope the journey did not trouble you . though, i would not linger for long ; the longer we wait for night to draw near, the larger the threat will be once we set out . - ❜
