hey so im starting boarding school next year in Aus and im really nervous, im going into year 10 (sorry i know you live in USA) and thats like 2 years already into high school. im really nervous because we get our own rooms and in the morning i will not know what to do and yeah and im just so afraid that im starting not at the beginning but the middle of school! how was your first day at boarding school? and in classes did people ask you to sit with them etc? please help me!!
I think it's really nice that you get your own rooms actually. Vanessa and I have our own rooms in college, and the best thing you can do is leave your door open so people know you exist. I'm not really sure how your building works, but if there are people on your floor/hall, you should get to know them first. The best thing you can do (since you're entering in the middle of the year and not the beginning) is to just get to know other people. It might take some time, but you will definitely find a friend group you can hang out with if you put in the effort to.
My first day at boarding school was kind of exciting, but I mostly just went to all my classes and sat wherever I wanted. Everyone in my grade was together (because we were all new) so everyone was easily approachable.
Basically, with things like making friends, you just have to go with the flow. Don't think that there's a shortcut way to make friends, it just happens. I suggest that you start getting to know the people around you first, and in your classes. And the best way to do this is by introducing yourself and TALKING.
