“Hey, I’m open minded.”
I’m open minded, he says, and Seren’s eyebrows arch –because she doesn’t quite know how to explain the fact that open-minded isn’tenough for someone to be able to stomach the kind of confessions she couldmake. But her lips burn with the need to let go, to confess, and for a short, insane minute she wonders – why the hellnot? What could go wrong? – except, well, everything. That one singleredeeming thought should be enough to make her shut up, and go quiet, but forsome reason she can’t quite define, it’s not. So, instead of doing what shethinks is the right thing, she gives him a curt warning first. “I’m quite certain this is more than whatyou’re bargaining for, so you’ve one chance to change your mind.”
Buthe doesn’t speak, and, truthfully, she hasn’t expected him to. It wouldn’t bethe same man she’s grown accustomed to if he did.
So,before she can tell him anything, she brings one hand up, guiding it to brushaway the platinum strands of her hair, tugging them up into a messy ponytail, one that leaves her cheeks bare, revealing the intricacies of her vallaslin, and, with it… the pointedtips of her ears. The look in his eyes is enough to make her blush – she isn’tshy, not at all, but she’s terrified of what he could say, and she doesn’t wantto hear it. “I’m not too sure where Icould start to… explain this. But I,ah… I suppose you can tell quite well by yourself that I’m not… human, notreally.”
