When I was in high school, my mom liked to borrow old movies from the library. These were in the VHS days of the early 90’s, pre-internet, pre-TCM, so this became my introduction to classic movies. We mostly borrowed Fred and Ginger musicals, but at one point I watched some Chaplin films and immediately became a fan. One of my favorites was Modern Times, which still holds up today. The scenes I remember most are the eating machine and when he’s unable to stop doing the wrenching movements even after he walks away from the assembly line.
