DIY Silicone Bead Rings
Folks have probably seen the silicone bead rings @stimtastic is now selling, so I thought I’d make my own. These are best for fidgeting rather than chewing because the ring I used isn’t stainless steel (and tarnishes when exposed to water or glue, as I discovered when making chain fidgets) but if you just like the feel of silicone for fidgeting, these were super affordable to make. Unlike regular bead rings (using plastic, metal or glass beads) these are silent when rolled over my desk or hand.
Riot Art and Craft currently has strings of silicone beads on clearance sale for $2 AUD. Because I’m a member, I got them reduced even further--$1.40. Your local store may not have these left (mine only had a couple of strings) and not all the beads available have holes big enough for easy threading onto a ring. I found these 2 cm flattened circle beads to be the best, with holes 3.5 mm across; some smaller round sphere beads I also bought don’t fit on any of my clip rings.
(For other chew-safe bead options, I’d look to Etsy. If you don’t wish to chew on them, eBay has heaps of different beads for very low prices. Buying mixed lots from either means you can get different colours!)
The 50 mm clip rings come from Daiso ($2.80 AUD for five) and I use them because they clip open very easily (meaning I’m not hurting my hands trying to use pliers). I can get proper split rings from Lincraft, which I recommend for folks wanting something more durable, but they’re more expensive and far more difficult to thread. I already had the above from making my own ring fidgets and bead rings!
Since I don’t like chewing on beads this thick, this is a nicely inexpensive fidget. I will say that my fingers catch on the hinge sometimes, so other folks may prefer a split ring instead of a clip ring. Other than that, I’m happy with my versions--and it’s nice to have a bead ring that’s so very quiet to use.
I got this because I’m on their mailing list. The sale ends on June 5.
Mod note: I believe this is for Riot Art and Craft stores. Thank you so much for the submission, @krakensry!

Mint Blush Jewellery Kit - Riot Art and Craft, $19.99 AUD.
This is a kit containing 65 different non-toxic silicone beads, four clasps and rattail cord. Based on the number of beads and how you use them, you might even get more than four necklaces out of this, meaning that you’re paying $5 AUD or less per necklace (if you provide your own breakway clasps and rattail cord for any extra necklaces). For chewables here in Australia, that’s a great price if you don’t mind making them yourself.
The good thing about this kit is that it is made by a reputable silicone bead seller, Silicone Beads Australia. The label only describes these beads as “non-toxic”, but here is a link to their product safety page listing their testing and the quality of the beads.
I’ll post a second review about the pieces I make with the kit, how they were to make and what they’re like to chew on, but this is more of an informative post so any interested Aussies don’t miss out on the clearance price, as their usual price at Riot is $29.99 AUD. I also saw the black/grey and blue/green kits as well, also listed at the same price. Unfortunately, there is no listing on Riot’s website.
They are listed on Silicone Beads Australia’s own website, priced between $25-$35 AUD depending on colour, in fifteen different colour variations. The Mint Blush set above is $35 AUD. When you add shipping to this ($8 AUD flat-rate for standard shipping) this makes the kits quite a bit less affordable. So if you can check out your local Riot store, do so!
(I’ll also add that Silicone Beads Australia has the mint rattail cord to go with my mint green clasps, but since they’re asking $8.99 AUD for 10 metres with shipping on top, I’ll continue to do without it. Their twenty-pack of clasps also costs much more than my eBay thirty-pack, so please be aware that their products are quite expensive. They do have an incredible range of bead shapes, though!)

You're the first person I thought to tell but I know how alot of people in Australia have a hard time finding stim stuff without ridiculous shipping fees, but there is an etsy called elleonenine who sells silicone stuff for chewing! They're Australian and even sell loose beads so you can put together your own chewable jewlery
It’s so sweet of you to think of me! Thank you so much!
I’ll observe for Aussies two things. First, internal shipping on items is still $8.25 AUD (it’s sad that’s actually among the cheaper options for internal shipping here, but it is) but that is a flat-rate shipping price for multiple items.
Second, there is a listing to which I will not link for puzzle piece chewables. (I don’t want any autistic to happen across that unexpectedly, and autistics may find that good enough reason to not shop from this seller.) There’s no mention of supporting A$ or Amaze, however, just … puzzle piece chewables. Ick.
(For non Aussies, the seller only ships to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, France, Germany, UK and the US, but US and Canadian folks have great etsy bead suppliers in their own countries - the amazing Silicone Canada and Princess Bead Supply - so I wouldn’t bother.)
Elle One Nine is having some sales at the moment:
- Flat oval bead necklaces are $8 AUD.
- Round oval bead necklaces are also $8 AUD.
- Funky lotus pendant necklaces are $5 AUD.
- Their bulk bead section is pretty good - nothing costs over $3 AUD. Five square silicone beads cost only $1 AUD!
- Super pretty and bright rainbow necklaces cost $13.75 AUD and are available in hexagonal, round or oval shaped beads.
If buying, I’d buy several things at once to make the shipping less terrible (say a necklace and several lots of beads for DIYing, which I really want to do at some point) but the prices themselves seem pretty good. $5 AUD for a silicone pendant is a good price!
Hoodie anon, the aglet yes, light chew and sucking but like the toughness and smallness. Thank you for the information.
Thanks so much, anon, for that added info!
If you like sucking, I’ve also written a post on chewables that are like to be better for sucking, but note that these are much bigger than the aglets. It’s actually a bane of my own existence in trying to find items for sucking that are small, because most are just too big to fit comfortably in my mouth.
@caseydickdanger commented on your ask that you can string chewable silicone beads onto hoodie cords and if you’re not a tough chewer, this may be a better option for you, because these beads are often much smaller than silicone pendant-style necklaces (and better than chewing on the aglet). I’ll note that I even find the standard hexagonal silicone beads to be too big, so you may wish to look at the smaller spherical ones.
I’ve got a post on where to purchase silicone beads. Silicone Canada on Etsy has an amazing selection of beads and pendants (I should write a few posts on their stock, actually) and they have a Round Bead section in four different sizes. Princess Bead Supply (also on Etsy, ships from the US) also has a Mini Silicone Bead section.
(Note: they don’t really make these sorts of beads for avid or very avid chewers, so they’re recommended for lighter or moderate chewers.)
