I took a little break from this project because I got annoyed at having to write out the pattern instructions to be more user friendly. I’ve now got a completed back and an almost complete left front. Once I knit the right front (just reversed what I already knit) then I can start assembling and adding the ribbing.
Finished viking baby krytle. I made this viking style tunic for my kiddo using some lovely pure merino wool suiting and some cotton tablet woven trim I made several years ago. Only the main seams of this garment were machine sewn, everything else (ie flat seaming, collar, hemming, trim) was all hand stitched using teensy fairy stitches.

This is my washed suffolk leicester cross fleece. Since the individual locks still have dried (yet very clean!) dirt still on the tips & are clumped from the washing process, it’s important to flick both the tip and butt (aka cut) ends to open out the fibers again prior to carding. Pop locks and flicker brushes are great tools do this. I prefer using my pop lock when I’m working on the couch as it’s more comfortable for me when I’m working in that location considering how I sit. I do use my flicker brush, but I prefer it only when I’m sitting on a chair with my feet flat on the floor.
Wanted to show how I use my niddy noddy for processing my handspun. This 2 yard niddy noddy is made from standard plumbing piping you can get from the hardware. It’s really easy & fast to wind off spindles using this tool providing you have the right technique of using your whole arm/shoulder to control the tools motion. Listen to the audio for a description of the winding pattern as I do it in real time.
Completed ‘Chestnut Bonnet’, knit in fyberspates vivacious yarn in Lundy Island colourway. Bonnet modelled by my partner who has a perfectly normal sized head - if you have a smaller head I would recommend reducing the number of chart repeats by 1 so the bonnet ends by your ears (instead of each end meeting under your chin!).

Sunflower tapestry WIP. The canvas wasn’t rolling smoothly because of the height difference between the stitched and unstitched areas. So I went back and started filling in all the background areas I’d skipped over. To say doing large blocks of a single colour is incredibly boring is an understatement.
I have been doing themed month photos for my baby throughout the year and one of them was viking era themed to coincide with our local medieval festival. This was a lot of trial and error. I started out by measuring a onesie and translating the measurements onto a rough diagram I got off a random historical era clothing blog. Subsequent fittings showed that baby proportions are weird resulting in the front panels, armpit squares, and side gores being re-cut to allow for how babies move when they crawl/you dress them. The arms were also shortened after all the seams were hand stitched flat. Stay tuned for the final garment reveal.
Shrug/bolero WIP. I finally found the perfect pattern for a special variegated handspun - ‘Moira’ from Rowen Classic Tweed Vol 21.
This yarn was made from 3 different @fossilfibers colourways with tones that were a perfect complement. I have enough of this yarn to get out the entire garment, with perhaps a little left over (we shall see).
The first load of fleece (about 1/3rd) has been washed. Lanolin dissolves in water thats 60C, but wool doesn’t like hot temperature or sudden temperature changes otherwise it’ll felt. So it’s important to keep the water hot across the baths & to only gently paddle the wool to encourage lanolin/urine/sweat/dirt/etc to come out with the soap. There is 1-2 rinse baths after the scour baths, which isn’t shown, just to get any remaining soap out.
Completed hobbit house full body cross stitch. Piece is completed on 14ct aida cloth & measures 30x30cm. Stitched using DMC cotton threads.
USA SHIPPING UPDATE
From 24 July 2026, the USA is implementing a sliding scale tariff system on all items costing <$2500usd and these tariffs are required to be paid by sellers prior to shipments entering the USA.
As a hobby artist I can not financially absorb the costs of these tariffs. More importantly, as an Australian I am not legally liable to pay tariffs associated with another country. Due to this I will no longer be shipping to the USA.
I will consider resuming shipping to the USA if and when the USA stops financially bullying the global economy.
Sunflower tapestry WIP. I focused on getting the 3rd sunflower and the bottom leaves completed. This represents approximately 2 weeks work.
I’ve had this perendaleXmerino fleece for almost a year now, so it’s time it gets washed so the lanolin doesn’t set or discolour the wool. I left it all packed so the fleece wouldn’t risk being exposed to moths or other nasties prior to now.
Since I can only wash fleeces in tubs in my bath, I prefer to pick the locks so they can be lined up in washbags. This is going to be particularly important since I will have to do several separate washing sessions to get through this 3kg of fleece! I also feel that picking lets me get to know the fleece & allows the locks to be more thoroughly scoured.
Aaaand … the final section is complete! Stay tuned for the big reveal whilst I get this sucker steam cleaned & pressed.
Our Pathfinder group wanted a break from dungeon crawling, so we did an airbrush painting day instead. Despite my favourite acrylic paint not really liking going through the airbrush (it kept wanting to clump despite being thinned with airbrush medium), I managed to get this lovely base gradient & spotlight highlighting. I haven’t really planned this paint job, so I’m going to let it sit for a while whilst I contemplate next steps.

More progress on the sunflower tapestry. I’m doing each sunflower individually, just in case my guesstimate on how much wool I needed is wrong and I need to get more. It’s a lot easier to blend new dye lots into a tapestry when the new dye lot is separated from other motifs with that colour & you’re not trying to immediately switch over in a large colour block.
Finished the 5th section on the hobbit house cross stitch. I am so close to finishing the image and am getting super excited to see the whole scene come together!
