SERIES - Descendants of the Kings of Asturias: Silu was the sixth King of Asturias from 773.
-------------------- ~ -------------------- ~ --------------------
SILU's origins are not known, although it is believed that he was an aristocrat from the town of Pravia, in the Kingdom of Asturias. There are also speculations that his mother may have been of Muslim origins.
The first time he is recorded was in 773 when he was married to ADOSINDA, an Asturian Royal as the only daughter of Alfonsu I, King of Asturias and Ermesinda.
He possibly had one son (check below), though it is discussed if the mother of this child was an unrecorded first wife, his recorded wife Adosinda or an unknown mistress.
His marriage to Adosinda was organised by the Asturian nobility who probably married him to her to make him a member of the Asturian Royal Family, who was lacking male adult heirs.
They subsequently elected him as the new KING OF ASTURIAS and upon his accession he became a member of the ASTUR-LEONESE DYNASTY, founding his own branch line.
Like his predecessor King Aureliu, his reign was of relatively peace with the Muslims, though he endured a rebellion in Galicia.
During his reign he changed the Asturian capital to Pravia, where he held lands.
Ten years after his accession as King of Asturias, he died in Pravia, in 783.

As the existence and legitimacy of his son is questioned, after his death his wife briefly succeeded in puting her nephew on the Asturian throne, as King Alfonsu II.
But his wife's nephew was soon dethroned by King Silu's illegitimate brother-in-law who acceded as King Mauregatu.
