My Take on the Cloths
In the franchise, it's pretty clear that the 88 Constellations that Athena´s Saints represent were established since the Age of Myth, especially in Time Odyssey
The problem is that about half of the current official constellations were observed by Ptolemy, and the other half were established from 1536 onwards, meaning that half of the first generations of saints were protected by a guardian constellation of animals or things that hadn't been discovered or invented yet
While the argument could be made that it was thanks to Athena´s foresight into mankind´s future, I came up with some headcannons that my hyperfixation came up with last week (marked with HC), as well as to point out what some constellations are meant to represent that I believe aren't that well known
Aquarius - Ganymede, son of the Trojan King Tros and cupbearer of the Gods
Auriga - Erichthonius of Athens, chthonic son of Hephaestus and raised by Athena
Boötes - Icarius of Athens, the shepherd who welcomed Hermes to the city before being killed by his own servants
Capricorn - Pan the God of the Wild, in the disguise he took as the monstrous Typhon assaulted Olympus
Centaurus, Pholus of Mount Pelion, the centaur accidentally killed by Heracles´ poisoned arrows after Chiron´s death (HC)
Corona Australis, the golden laurel wreath worn by Chiron, which was the symbol of his immortality and divine lineage
Corona Borealis, the crown of Princess Ariadne of Crete that shone bright and showed Theseus the way out of the Labyrinth
Corvus, the white crow that informed Apollo of the infidelity of his infaithful lover Coronis, and was turned black in his rage
Crater, the cup in which Apollo had commanded the now black crow to fill with water, only for it to satisfy its own needs first
Draco, a dragon killed and tossed into the sky by Athena during the Gigantomachia, or Ladon, the guardian of the Hesperides
Equuleus, the swift foal Celeris, and either the offspring or little brother of the legendary Pegasus
Eridanus, Phaethon, son of Clymene and Helios, who lost control of his father´s chariot and carved the Eridanus River into being
Lepus, the hare which the hunter Orion had chosen as prey, right before he was killed by Scorpio
Libra, the scales of balance held by the Goddess of Justice, Astraea
Lupus, the destructive and vengeful Apollo in his title of Lycaeus or the wolves said to accompany Artemis in her hunts (HC)
Piscis Austrinus, the Great Fish that drinks the water spilled by Aquarius as he serves it from the celestial vault
Sagitta, the arrow that Heracles used to strike down the eagle that devoured Prometheus´ liver on Zeus´ orders
Triangulum, the Isle of Sicily which was formerly known as Trinacria due to its shape and related to the upper-case letter Delta
Virgo, the Goddess Astraea herself or Erigone, daughter of Icarius of Athens, who hanged herself in dismay of her father's murder
Coma Berenices, Berenice II of Egypt, who dedicated her tresses of hair to the gods if her husband Ptolemy III returned safely home
Dorado, the goldfish, or Xiphias, which means swordfish
Grus, the crane that due to its closeness to Piscis Austrinus, tries to catch it as it drinks from Aquarius' amphora (HC)
Hydrus, the snake accused by Corvus of having drunk from the cup that Apollo had ordered him to fill before he went to eat figs
Musca, the gadfly which stung Pegasus and killed Bellerophon, or the Goddess Metis turned into a fly and was then eaten by Zeus (HC)
Pavo, the peacock, which is the symbol of the Goddess Hera after her servant Argus Panoptes died while following her orders (HC)
Phoenix, the bird resurrected from its own ashes, said to Achilles by Chiron that each of their lives is 972 times that of men (HC)
Volans, the flying fish that was depicted to swim around the Argo Navis (HC)
Camelopardalis, the giraffes of Aethiopia, were named so due to their camel-like bodies and leopard-like spots (HC)
Monoceros, the unicorn which the Greeks writers of natural history claimed to exist on India, was described as wild asses (HC)
Canes Venatici, either the hunting dogs of Boötes or those of Actaeon, who killed him after Artemis turned him into a deer (HC)
Lacerta, the lizard or gecko that the boy Acalabus was transformed into after mocking Demeter while in disguise (HC)
Leo Minor, the Lion of Cithaeron, was hunted by Alcathous to marry Princess Evaechme of Megara and become king (HC)
Scutum, Shield of Ajax the Great, the hero who wielded a magnificent shield of seven cowhides and a layer of bronze (HC)
Sculptor, Pygmalion, King of Cyprus, was rewarded by Aphrodite for his devotion by bringing his masterpiece, Galatea, to life (HC)
Mensa, the Table Mountain in South Africa's Cape Town, was named by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille, as well as 13 other constellations
Carina, Puppis, and Vela, the Keel, Poop Deck or Aft, and the Sails of the Argo Navis
Athena, from this moment on, we pledge to stand by your side to protect justice and peace in the world.
