Journal With Witch (Journal of a Foreign Country)
Asa is a 15 year old teenage girl when her parents die in an accident. Her aunt Makio, a writer who likes to spend most of her time alone and was at odds with her sister (Asa's mother) decides to take care of her niece.
I was surprised by the quality here, what a sensitive series! It handles personal relations, drama and grief with care. Makio is a very interesting character. She's a bit disconnected from certain things emotionally, which can be very frustrating for people around her at times, but she still knows the importance of treating people well and puts effort on it with actions. Seeing her and Asa navigating their new life together is lovely. I also really liked seeing Makio's relationship with Kasamachi and other friends. Meanwhile Asa deals with a lot while trying to find herself and thinking back on her relationship with her parents and her current situation. A good series indeed, very touching.
Apparently it covered over half of the manga but then it ended on a conclusive timeskip so it seems they're done, which is a shame, but it still was a lovely journey. A highlight of the winter season!
Oh, I also watched the 2024 live-action movie! Sadly I was underwhelmed by this version (though I'll say the subtitles were messy so that didn't help).
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2
Frieren, Fern and Stark continue on their charming adventure with touching moments and cool action. We get more flashbacks, meet another hero, get to know better another mage, and of course, fight more demons!
This was a short season and in general it wasn't as exciting as the first one, but it still delivered its moments. Stark being firm on staying with the party, the Hero of the South, Genau, Himmel's memories, etc. Good stuff, got me emotional at times (duh, it's Frieren!). Apparently they saved a big arc for next season, which will be here october next year! Exciting!
Hana-Kimi Season 1
I saw people discribing it as a precursor to Ouran and got curious! Also it's cool to see a series that's been over for years to get a long due adaption. Here we have Mizuki Ashiya, who takes a liking to Izumi Sano, a young athlete, so much so she decides to go to Japan(!) to attend the same school as him...except he studies at an all-boys school so she has to go in disguise! Crazy premise tbh ^^' Romcom shenaningans ensue!
The couple-to-be is likable and cute together, though their friend Nakatsu might be even more likable... The show hasn't yet captured me the way Ouran did but it's still nice. Granted apart from the crossdressing and mostly male cast the shows are not very similar. Anyway! Season 2 is already here this month, so let's see how it goes!

In The Clear Moonlit Dusk Season 1
I wasn't very impressed at first but the show does gets better as it goes. First when Yoi and Ichimura start to test-date, then when they start to date for real! I get that Yoi is shy and new to all this but she's a bit insane with the contract stuff (I get that's where the comedy comes in but man ^^')...But fine, she slowly adjusts and well, they're cute together! The series didn't have that it that it factor to me, but it was still cool, it got me rooting for them.
Tamon's B Side Season 1
Wasn't plannning on watching a fan/idol series but people were loving it and hyping the animation so I decided to try! The comedy here really jumps out, it's fun. And I get that Utage doesn't want to assume anything so not to cross any boundaries but it gets frustrating when she doesn't even acknowledge she and Tamon became friends! ^^' But it's nice to see them get closer, and as we get to know the other F/ACE members the dynamics and story gets more interesting too!
Champignon Witch Season 1
I was interested in this one cause yay, witches! And yes, the story and worldbuilding is quite interesting and charming. Luna's poisonous nature leaves her isolated which is quite sad but it's cool to see (some) people still get close. The whole destined ruin thing and then meeting other witches make for interesting stuff. The animal friends are a bit odd though, idk. The animation is sadly quite rough, it clearly had a small budget.
Also a pity the season didn't go on enough for them to find a real way for Lize to advance, cause the forced removal of darkness which results in memory loss and hinders his growth is clearly not a solution and is not going to work in the long term. It's more like a palliative. Anyway... Interesting concepts but weak execution, a better budget (and maybe more episodes to advance the plot more) would have propped it up.
One Piece Season 2: Into the Grand Line
Back with the Straw Hats! Again, this was quite fun. The crew's dynamics are really good. I know this show can't cover the entire series but I hope it can gifts us with at least a handful of seasons yet.
I gotta say I liked season 1 more (1x06 and 1x07 really pulled my heartstrings)... I figure the "new" factor is a thing, but Idk, I feel season 2 lacked impact at certain points. But each location still had something cool to offer! Also it's always a delight to get a good song sequence, the whole whale and Bink's Sake thing was sweet! ^^
Once again alternated between subbed and dubbed episodes and honestly, I'll probably keep it that way :)
Love Through a Prism
Set in early 20th century, we follow Japanese student Lili Ichijoin as she joins an English art academy to become a painter! There she meets other artists, among them the talented and eccentric Kit Church. What starts as a rivalry develops into romantic feelings while they hone their artistic skills.
This was such a good series!!!! And the visuals?? WOW. Talk about mesmerizing backgrounds! Also the friend group of artists is delightful! We got compelling academic life, touching moments and juicy drama! I wish a few things went down differently but the show is still great as it is. An original anime complete in 20 episodes! This was another highlight, do recommend!

Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring
At first this didn't seem so strong at times but it's actually really cool!!! Plus halfway through the season the story REALLY picks up, it's great! I also wasn't that big on Hinagiku at first but she really grew on me! She's SO strong!!!! T_T
Hinagiku and Sakura's bond is very sweet, it would have been cool if the story was about them being romantically involved tbh. I DO like Hinagiku x Rosei, but the girls are the focus and more fleshed out. Anyway... The other seasons and agents are also cool, we seem them all in action eventually! The ending felt a bit abrupt and fast-paced, wish it had a couple more episodes - one for the fights and one for the aftermath - but it was still cool.
This was a self-contained story/arc and a highlight of spring season! I wonder if the following arcs are cool too and if they will get animated. Each arc has different protagonists, and the next one in the novels is focused on summer.
Witch Hat Atelier Season 1
More witches!!!! And oh, wow. I see what the hype was about! Coco and the other girls are lovely, they have so much personality! And I love Qifrey! Olruggio is cool too, and Tartah! They're such a cool cast. And the worldbuilding!!!! Very interesting and intriguing (mysterious!!). A truly good show, and beautifully animated! The highlight of spring. Season 2 confirmed! woohoooo

Always a Catch! How I Punched My Way Into Marrying a Prince S1
This was ok but not really a standout. It's nice that we see not only the romance between Maria (aka Mimi) and Renato, but also other relationships. Mimi and Aida's friendship is sweet, and we even see her charm a girl (who was set on being mean) into becoming her friend too! We also see her relationship with her dad and little brother. And of course there's the second couple, Placido and Aida. The brothers and their wives will clearly make a wonderful family!
We also see Mimi beating up some criminals which is always fun and one of the reasons I decided to watch this! The other reason being that I wanted to watch something during the week, preferably a shoujo (most of the spring shows I watched were on Saturday). I did expect something more akin to May I Ask though and well...It's not bad that it was different, but what this series did offer wasn't really incredible.
Anyway. In general it's cute, but weak
