Looking back, The Silver Blade proved to be a six-reel harbinger of the two tiers of Jonathan Lord’s Hollywood career. The dashing heroic leads Lord played in his youth gradually gave way to more mature, more bizarre character roles... many of which appeared in classic (and not-so-classic) horror films.
Silverblade (1987) #2
(Cary Bates, Gene Colan)
You think you told me anything I haven’t known for half a lifetime? The star you worshipped died years ago. I mourn for him too! You think I like what I am? The kind of monster I’ve become? What I was... I wanted so much to be what I was... I’d give anything to be what I was again...
Jonathan Lord’s transformation in Silverblade (1987) #1
(Cary Bates, Gene Colan)
Oh, there’ll always be beauty enough inside these walls. But love? Kindness? Not for several decades now. Not since the march of time took its savage toll on a fading star doomed to watch but not touch his immortality on the silver screen.

Honestly, Jonathan. You tell me a Maltese Falcon statuette magically “came to life” and restored your youth... bestowed you with this bizarre power to transform into any character you ever played on film... and you have the nerve to say you don’t want to answer any more questions?
Silverblade (1987) #6
(Cary Bates, Gene Colan)
You cannot imagine what it’s like for me to be able to virtually transform into any character, any monster I ever portrayed on film. You cannot imagine it, old friend... and I fear I cannot cope with it.
