clutter help!

HI!

I've been trying to get the hang of adding clutter to my sim's homes; extra junk on the bookshelves, on sidetables, kitchen counters, etcetcetc.

I've tried installing those 'slot' things that are pretty much pillar looking thinks that are certain sizes for certain things and you can make them invisible. Buuut this seems to work a bit awkwardly for me, ( not allowing me to use the surface when it comes to kitchen counters ) and just overall wonky where the extra items are placed.

Can anyone give me any suggestions, tips, links, tutorials, ANYTHING?!

I'd greatly appreciate it. I love me some cluttered-junk filled homes.
