i made this psd a loooong time ago (2016? 2017?) and it was due for a re-release. i’ve left most of it untouched, but i tweaked a couple things. there will be a comparison between v.1 and v.2 under the cut. this is a collection of the two psds, meaning that the original psd is included as well!
this is NOT a reshade preset or a mod. this is a file that you use in photoshop to edit your pictures.
pop! is a basic gameplay psd. it keeps things saturated without going too crazy, and will work for a variety of gameplay images for most games, but was specifically designed with the sims 4 and the sims 2 in mind.
the original psd has been included, along with all of its addons -- a CAS psd, an action version of the psd, and some smoothing and sharpening actions. i cannot vouch for the quality of the addons, since they were made such a long time ago. pop! v1, and all of its addons, are unsupported.
differences between v1 and v2:
v2 does not have an accompanying action, unlike v1. i personally never use actions to color my screenshots, and creating an action that uses the same layers as the psd is the kind of tedious work that i don’t really enjoy doing. that being said, the retired version of the psd that i included still has the action attached, which i’ve left untouched, so at least you’ll have an action for the old version if that’s your jam.
v2 also doesn’t have a CAS addon. i find that cas shots aren’t really difficult (or interesting) to color, and you’d probably be better off finding a dedicated cas psd, or just use the cas folder from v1.
i tweaked some of the old layers, mostly aiming for a warmer, more red toned psd. the changes are very subtle, which you can see in the gif below:
the basics on how to use psds:
open the .psd file in photoshop
drag whichever folder you want to use onto your screenshot
edit any layers you want to edit, flatten your image, do whatever cropping + resizing you wanna do, then save!
please be careful when editing the curves layer – messing with it too much could whitewash your sims. be mindful of this while you’re editing!
i made this using photoshop cs6, but as far as i know it should be usable with other versions of photoshop.
i don’t know if this will work in gimp, since i don’t use it and don’t know anything about it.
just uploading my current .psd so i can update my resources page. i use this for both gameplay/scenery and cas screenshots, and you can too. it has a bright but muted feel, with a lowered saturation.
how to use
open the .psd and your screenshot in photoshop
prepare your screenshot the way you usually do: crop, topaz clean etc. (note: i use these actions for topaz clean)
drag group 1 from the psd on top of your screenie
adjust the opacity, hide the layers that you don’t need etc.
another note!! this psd lightens everything quite a bit (including skin tones), so i strongly suggest to lower the opacity of the group until you are pleased with the result. you can also add a darkening curves layer if needed.
some of you have been asking me about how i edit my gameplay screenshots, so i’ve decided to share the updated version of the psd i use for most of my screenies
DOWNLOAD (simfileshare)
it works best on top of @kaleekalo‘s Clean and Clear actions, so i recommend downloading these first
Here’s a little PSD I’ve been using lately for you all! What it does is make your screenshots a little bit warmer and like your sims are in the sun (hence the name!), but it’s quite subtle!
I recommend using it along with @glitchysims Keep Dark Skins Dark to avoid any witewashing happening with your darker sims. Here are more previews/examples as well!
Play with it as much as you like :-)
