Check out this chill South Asian artist from NorCal! Simi Sohota, of Healing Potpourri, hails from Davis, CA and currently resides in San Francisco. His music is intricate, electronic, and feels like waterfall mist.
Here are some words straight from Simi’s fingers about himself and his music:
I was listening to my album on my computer at work trying to think of what I wanted people to know about my music when someone in the next cube said, "What is that? I think someone's playing Halloween music." I guess the first thing that I'd want people to know is that it isn't Halloween music. It's music for relaxation and meditation. It's not an intense thing though, it's more like the aural equivalent to blowing bubbles.
I'm non-confrontational and don't like to meet problems head on. Instead I retreat, turn off and float away to music like what I'm trying to create with "The Way Water Bends Light." I like to think of it as kind of like a snooze button for my life. Just five more minutes...
I'm inspired by people that speak softly: my plants, my city, new age sentiments without the mysticism, healing and easy listening/guided meditation cassettes, and my friends. I'm in a collective called Brad Grammar, that co-released my LP with KDVS Recordings. Everything that they do is so incredible and amazing to me that it pushes me to try to make greater art.
I've kind of gone into hiding a little bit since I moved to the Mission District of San Francisco in October. I'm trying to get my footing here before unleashing Healing Potpourri on my neighbors, but once I do, I'll let you know.
