  { The world seems to whiz past her at an alarming speed. The Dream Lord himself is sitting on a cloud with a bowl of popcorn, watching as her nightmare unfurls. 

            Oh.                He's seen these before. The falling nightmares. Yowch, that's going to hurt if she hits                                    the                                      ground. }

  { Before that can happen though, he snaps his fingers. Now at a formal gathering of some sort that he's plucked from her memories, he strides up to her. }

It takes Ward a little longer than expected to realize that he and Jemma Simmons really aren't that different. Like-minded is the best way he can explain it. Yes, alright, they are chalk and cheese physically and in the workplace, but their approach to their lives is oddly similar.Both have shocking people skills. Both would rather die and sacrifice themselves, rather than take the team down with the. Both react physically to danger and a lot of situations -- I mean, hello, Jemma shooting Sitwell? (There are more, honestly, these are just the most prominent examples...)So when he returns from a mission, nursing a bruised ego because his partner -- someone he considered a friend -- sold him out, Jemma finds Ward by the punching bag. Frustrated, he's reverting to what he knows; hitting something. He gets out a few good punches before she starts talking.         She talks about her first boyfriend. Some jerk who cheated on her after seven months.               She talks about this girl back in elementary school who she played with at lunchtimes. The girl nicked Jemma's favourite set of markers and never gave them back.                      She talks about her sister who she loves dearly, but never seems to understand that oh, yes, the world does not revolve around her. Shock horror.She makes it perfectly clear that while she knows none of these examples compare to being sold out mid-mission, she knows what he feels. Betrayal. Hurt. Jemma Simmons sits on a crate, swinging her legs because she can't touch the ground, and she talks Ward down from his anger.He lets out a heavy sigh. There's still tension in his shoulders -- there always will be -- but when he turns to Jemma, he offers a small smile and a nod of thanks.That's all she needs.

Cardiac arrest. If Jemma was any less knowledgeable about medical disorders, she would have said she nearly went into cardiac arrest upon walking into her bedroom and finding Fitz there, after being declared missing, presumably dead, for far too long (8 months, 21 days, 5 hours). She rushed over to his side, checking his pulse, temperature, everything she could think of. All told, he seemed physically okay, and so she pulled up a chair and waited, deciding to let him sleep.

He slept. And slept. And slept. When he finally woke up, he was confused where he was. Then he remembered the events of the past twenty four hours. He rubbed his eyes and looked up to see Jemma sitting at his bedside. Oh, how incredible in felt to see her face again. "Good morning. Is it morning?"

He realized she had nothing on but a light sweater and took off his jacket, holding it over her head. "Maybe you were right. Walking back was a bad idea."
