People like myself are trained to protect and defend the innocent. When we can’t do that, we ask ourselves: What purpose do we serve? Inevitably, we’re called upon to perform another mission. And we go, hoping that next time we will make a difference by training brave boys and men who are trying to protect their village from rampaging terrorists, or rescuing injured children from the rubble of a bombed-out school.
