[song ends] SIMON DEE: ‘Keith West with “Excerpt from ‘A Teenage Opera’” - that record certainly grows on you, and if I may invite Brian Epstein to stage the Teenage Opera at the Saville Theatre, why not?’
A Teenage Opera is a musical project created by record producer Mark Wirtz. The first song released from the project was “Excerpt from ‘A Teenage Opera’” (‘Grocer Jack’) recorded by Keith West in 1967. The album was not released until 1996, and a stage show was performed in 2017.

Well I just went down a delightful rabbit hole, thanks to this recent post from hot-comedians! This was probably the most pointless thing ever to look up, but I had fun. :)
I realized that photo is from one of those Peter Cook appearances that I’ve never been able to pin down. I’ve been trying to keep the tags here organized and somewhat “informative” (well, decades and movie/TV show titles, that kind of thing), but I just didn’t know that pic’s source. Mid-tagging, I was stymied!
But a little Googlin’ tells me that picture - and the ones above - are from Cook’s appearance on the Simon Dee-hosted Dee Time from December 30, 1967. (Top left photo credited to Dezo Hoffman; the rest here are credited to Alan Messer: Cook, top right; Cook, Denis Norden, and Simon Dee; Cook; Cook; Cook and Dee.)
Shutterstock lists the date for these photos as “1968,” but it looks like it’s that December 1967 date according to Radio Times and the pic here that features Dee with Cook and another guest from that episode, Denis Norden.
Personal note: I use a version of one of these pics as the logo-ish thing on my Cook website; I scanned it in from a magazine thing years ago that I don’t think included the appearance source. It is probably my fave Cook photo (but how can ya choose?), so I’m glad I finally did the "research” (lol) to find its provenance!
Like I said, this is a silly post, but at least there are good pictures to distract from my rambling! :)
