It's kind of a weird question but how do you think Simon's relationship w his brother and mother would be like? I think it was implied in the comics that tommy was their dad's fav, do you think this affected their relationship?
I haven't read the comics tbh, but that's an interesting idea. I could definitely see Tommy being the favourite because of his louder personality. Younger Ghost lacks the moxie his father tries to beat into him. But Simon wouldn't care much for being the favourite(of his dad especially) since he'd have the more pressing issue of being a single mother for Tommy.
In my mind, their mother works three jobs to be able to support the siblings and unemployed husband and doesn't get to be at home much. Simon was born when their family was more financially stable, and got more time with the unburdened version of her as a result, compared to Tommy. He's a mama's boy. He does resent her a little for their circumstances(and marrying his dad), but ultimately she's the only person who brings him any comfort. He doesn't sleep until he hears her open the front door after her late shift.
Simon is just a few years older than Tommy, so they're pretty close. Simon doesn't mind dragging Tommy with him to hang out with his friends because he understands leaving him alone with their father typically comes back to bite him in the ass one way or another. Tommy definitely has a one-sided rivalry with Simon because he's the one reallyyy bothered with not being their mum's favourite. It's further fueled by their father's constant berating of Simon for being a sensitive sissy. Tommy joins in on the bullying if only to feel closer to their dad.
Simon leaves for the military pretty much as soon as he turns 18 to help his family financially, and in this time him and Tommy become distant. Tommy gets mixed up with a bad crowd and passes from a drug overdose a bit before finishing school(British college?), which hits Simon hard. It facilitates the idea that he has to have absolute control of anyone significant in his life for his own peace of mind, otherwise he'll be extremely anxious and paranoid. He truly believes his absence was the reason Tommy had gone the way he did.
