I got to spend my morning with one of the midwives doula (birthing coach) clients. The client happened to be Ms. Alkire! I got to play with her oldest son Henry and also hold her newborn Owen. The midwife answered any concerns she had and also showed Ms. Alkire various sleeping positions for the baby.
This morning I sat in on two prenatal visits. Both women were about 36-37 weeks pregnant. I was able to listen to the babies heart beat, and also hear about concerns which they may have as it is getting close to the delivery. There is a special type of ultrasound machine which they use to listen to the heartbeat which is called a Fetal Doppler. The midwives also showed me how they know if the baby is growing properly. They take a measuring tape and the length of the mother's stomach should measure exactly or close to how many weeks pregnant she is.
Today I learn how exactly a baby goes through the birth canal and how the pelvis moves!
