hyojong was thankful for this time with changgu -- the two having seen each other through passing and deciding to hide out in the back of hyojong’s car for privacy as they caught up with each other. if they were seen with each other, there was no doubt that one or both of them would receive some sort of negative consequence. it was relieving yet heartbreaking that this was how they had to go about things, but any time together was a god-send. hyojong closed the space between them with his hand, intertwining their fingers for that much needed contact. it really did feel like it had been forever. “i missed you. so much,” he said softly, quite candid and genuine in the moment. “you better be taking care of yourself and forcing the others to look over you too. if they aren’t, i’m not scared to show up to kick their asses.”

SOFT ANGST STARTERS.

a startled silence was the only thing to come out of junmyeon from the others statement. he’d never seen the two of them ever being different. sure, they were in different groups, but that shouldn’t have mattered. at least, it didn’t matter to him. “what are you talking about? why would you say that?” he finally asked, stuttering just slightly. despite their differing personalities, they were getting along great. junmyeon was even thinking that perhaps they could be something more and even subtly suggested as much. but that only earned him this hurtful answer. “what makes us so different?”

minseok’s jaw tensed. their short-lived fling was something he still thought about constantly. every time they passed each other in the building, every time they saw each other at award shows, every time minseok clicked repeat on an nct song -- he swore he could feel the pressure of the other’s lips against his own, a ghost spawning from his own mind. “it was time,” he said softly, no conviction in his words. “you had to focus on your music. you can’t have me distracting you from that. you’re getting big, mark. too big for me.” he hadn’t meant that he personally couldn’t handle it, but that mark’s increasing popularity, beauty, and talent was on a level that far exceeded his own.

kai drew his hand back as if burned. he’d only just reached out to catch the boy’s attention considering it was like he was practically running away to leave the backstage area. it was amidst an awards show -- exo having already preformed and bts just leaving the stage. kai had lingered to see jungkook, wanting to congratulate him on a job well done as well as have an excuse to steal a kiss. he’d been enthralled with jungkook, and jungkook knew that. they’d seemingly played a game of cat and mouse and kai was ready to finally catch the mouse. but apparently the mouse bit back. “wow, hey-- sorry,” he said, putting his hands up as a flash of concern washed over his features. “i didn’t think you would be so sensitive about me touching you. there was no harm in it. just wanted to say how good you looked.” his tone softened, thinking perhaps the reaction was a simple mistake. “come with me, please.”

kyungsoo never showed up at the s.m. hosted parties unless it was absolutely necessary and demanded by his manager. but he was somehow tricked into coming to one – making sure to remember to think up some sort of revenge scheme against chanyeol and junmyeon later. now he was sitting at a grouping of tables, some occupied by others who were feeling just the same. he was annoyed, bored, and uncomfortable. he’d barely made any conversation with yuta who was sharing his table. it wasn’t because he didn’t like yuta – it was just common knowledge that kyungsoo wasn’t exactly a social butterfly. he made his move to get up leave when he heard the other speak up. he stopped, thinking on those words as he looked over at the boy. normally, he wouldn’t be bothered to stay for anyone. but the way yuta had said it made him want to stay only for the sake of the other. “you don’t have to stay, you know. i know the rest of your members are busy doing whatever. maybe,” he said, trailing off before letting out a breath. was he really willing to part with his treasured alone time for the other? he was awfully handsome. “we can both leave together? maybe just to another part of the building? you probably have to catch a ride home with those guys by the end of the night – and it’s going to be a long night.”
