Good that Simoun's become available streaming to some people on a new platform.
Judging by Darkroom's trailer for it, though, their version
only includes some of the image, with lateral squash, and
has suffered some kind of (?sharpening?) process that's murdered the helical motor texture.
The textures on the helical motors are probably never going to look good. But they survive better when left behind the gentle blur of a standard def DVD release.
Should say I have no idea whether any of this is Darkroom's fault! For all I know, they're just plugging in whatever files they were handed. But this's just a more extreme example of the usual case: streaming's almost never going to offer the best way to watch a show.
