thank you so much, I’m so happy to hear it!! though once again HAH home ownership in or even remotely near los angeles is a long way off which I don’t know why I have to keep clarifying but like, if and when I do have a house it will be kind of a massive deal. like, a much bigger book deal or maybe several of them (lol forever I love capitalism) so let’s all keep our expectations low (I have friends who bought homes in san francisco and I am just??? how??? did you?? sell your organs??? make a deal with the devil???? in what way have you done this and more importantly how rich are your parents) but anyway this is not important, just the usual hurdles of our generation, the important thing is you’re here and you’re great and I appreciate you massively! thank you so much for being here with me 🖤

8, 9, 16, 26 for the reading asks

8. Do you prefer to read first person or third person?

I will say third, but I don’t notice when it’s done well.  The problem is I’m more forgiving of weakness in third than I am in first.

I’m also one of the rare fans of second, which is even harder than first but when done well I love

9. Are you for or against multiple narrators in the same book?

I’m somewhat agnostic.  I’m writing a dual POV now, so I’m obviously not against, but I’ve read some books where it seems like even the random gardener gets a POV chapter for no apparent reason.  There can be too many.

16. What’s your favourite of Shakespeare’s plays?

If I had to pick a favorite, I’d probably say MacBeth.  But it’s an impossible choice.  And, of course, Shakespeare is meant to be seen.  It’s not a thing to read but a thing to watch, which means when I think of the plays I think of the various productions I’ve seen.  I’ve seen enough bad and banal Midsummers and Hamlets to not be able to quite have them live without a little grimace to memory, and while the last bad MacBeth I saw MADE SOME WTF CHOICES, it was so visually beautiful I forgave it.

I am a sucker for beauty.

26. A book you studied in school and ended up loving?

Romeo and Juliet, I suppose.  Though I got a copy of Grapes of Wrath to reread and I anticipate like that one since I liked East of Eden.

For the writing asks: 2, 26, 30

What are some common elements of stories you are tired of seeing? What would you avoid writing about?

Amnesia. Hate that trope so much. The miscommunication trope. 9/10 times it doesn’t make sense why characters won’t talk to each other and then it causes so many problems even though one conversation would fix it. It’s frustrating and I just.... don’t see why people would bother to even write it. As much as I like romance, I really do think not EVERY book needs it because there are definitely some books I’ve read that shouldn’t have focused on it so much, but I like to include romance myself so idk. The female protagonist having to sacrifice herself for others, pretty sure I’ll never write that. Really any of those.

What do you feel like you need to work on as a growing writer? How can you improve?

I do know my grammar isn’t the best. I’m trying not to use as many adverbs. I’m still really young though so just more experience and age in general will be nice.

What is some of the best writing advice you’ve read or received? Why does it work for you?

5 and 6 for Ruka and Elias

5. Guilty pleasures

Elias and Ruka aren’t really people who indulge themselves. Ruka’s is probably falling asleep/leaning on other people (he usually holds himself distant), and Elias’ is seeing Ruka and not hating him (*eyes*).

AU wise, Ruka would totally be a book person who reads a lot of the classics for fun (he’s got a somewhat soft heart), while Elias would enjoy really sweet things.

6. Their vices (physical or emotional)

Ruka’s would definitely be saying cruel things in the name of honesty, while Elias’ are his trust issues and blind loyalty. Not sure those are really vices, but they’re definitely emotional.

In an alternative universe, like if they had grown up human, Ruka would probably like doing daredevil (and illegal) stunts, while Elias would have a preference for street racing.

For some OC asks: Why is Nikita obsessed with fighting k'ira? And why is Arya an enemy of the state?

nikita has lived in balu her whole life & her parents were politically involved in advocating to the end of ki’ran expansion.  while on a campaign through ki’ra, nikita’s parents were arrested by the government, never to be seen again.  so not only does nikita want to save her country from going down the gutter, but she wants revenge, too.

as for arya, she’s been seen working with the rebels while on their escapade through the ki’ran capital.  while she’s only working with them to ultimately betray them, the military sees her as a traitor and thus put a price on her head lmao

20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

There’s a bit in Maggie (aka “Small Town Monsters”) where the protagonist walks into a party and is able to calm her social anxiety by thinking about how she’d light the scene to make the best photograph and decides she’d use uplight from a table lamp because that’s how monsters are often lit in horror films and it would make them look the same way she emotionally perceives them.  Meanwhile, her actual date is a literal monster. 25. What part of writing is the most fun?

I honestly love all of it. I love drafting.  I love revising.  I love seeing people’s reactions.  It’s all great.
