Pioneer Courage Park and Spirit of Nebraska's Wilderness Park in Omaha, NE
More than 100 bronze sculptures crafted by Kent Ullberg, Blair Buswell, and Edward Fraughton in 2002 to 2003. The 1.25 times life size sculptures begin at Pioneer Park with wagon trains heading west, disturbing a herd of bison causing them to stampede down the street to Spirit of Nebraska's Wilderness Park where a flock of geese take flight and the story concludes with the sculptures flying into the First National Tower Winter Garden Atrium. The sculptures represents the Gateway to the West in Omaha's central business district.
Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, NE
The museum was a gift to the city of Omaha in 1931 from Sarah Joslyn in memory of her late husband, George Joslyn. The Joslyn Art Museum is Nebraska's largest art museum. It features 20 galleries of artwork from ancient times to modern times.
Joslyn Castle in Omaha, NE
Built in 1903, the $250,000 ($6 million today) 4-story Scottish Baronial Mansion was home to Nebraska's wealthiest people - George and Sarah Joslyn. George died in 1916 and Sarah in 1940. The castle is part of the National Register of Historic Places. Served as headquarters for Omaha Public Schools from 1944 to 1989. The castle is now managed by the Joslyn Castle Trust.
Orpheum Theater in Omaha, NE
Formerly called Creighton Theater in 1895, the theater was added to the Orpheum circuit in 1900. The former vaudeville was remodeled in 1927 as a performing arts venue. From 1940 to 1975 the Orpheum was a movie theater before it was renovated back into a performing arts venue again. The Orpheum Theater is on of Omaha's most popular performing arts venues and is managed by Omaha Performing Arts.
The Old Market in Omaha, NE
Omaha, a railroad center, was in its prime toward the end of the 19th century. The Old Market area was bustling with producers, buyers, and transporters up until the 1950's with westward expansion causing activity in the Old Market to halt. Many of the old warehouses remained empty for years and faced demolition until 1970's when Sam Mercer proposed an idea to convert the old warehouses into venues . Today, the Old Market is bustling with restaurants, pubs, entertainment, art galleries, shopping venues, and small businesses.
