Villagers catch huge croc in Simunjan
Chicken was used as bait to catch a 12-foot long crocodile that had been seen roaming the rivers here.
The crocodile was caught due to reports of many crocodile attacks upriver.
According to The New Straits Times, villagers of Kampung Sageng feared the worst due to these attacks and decided to catch the reptile by using chicken as bait.
Villager Ismail Tahir, 39, said they set up the bait yesterday night and believed the crocodile took it sometime early in the morning.
“The crocodile took the bait after waiting half a day.
“We saw the line was tight and we were shocked to see what we pulled in,” he said.
The 12-foot-long crocodile died two hours after it was taken to shore at 8.00am yesterday.
Ismail said there were several crocodile attacks upriver but there were no causalities reported so far.
“Villagers there also said they have lost their chickens and even cats, which they believed was eaten by the crocodile,” he added.
