366 days song challenge - Day 116
Fest Vainqueur - A Sure Winner
Here I am with the week-end band review in “Focusing on”! Today’s subject is a band, directly from Osaka, whose image is proud and attractive in each note they make. Their name is Fest Vainqueur, formed on 2010 and composed by Hal (vo.), Gaku (gt.), who joined the band on 2012, I’ll (gt.), who substituted Tomo on 2012, Hiro (ba.) and Kazi (dr.); note that all the original members, apart from the ones who came on 2012, were the members of the band Sincrea. The band name comes from two Western words, respectively fest, which in German means firmly, and vainqueur, which in French means winner. This explains their astonishing image, whose purpose is to be a sure winner for whoever gets to them, helped by incredibly coloured outfits; their genre is a reprise of the typical visual rock, in its heavier and freaking style, having as basis the style of Sincrea, definitely gloomier. Their debut occurred on December 2010 with the first mini-album named Fest Vainqueur, which would be re-released on 2011 (already reviewed here).
The lead-track, named Unlimited, shows off an energetic and powerful riffs, for an engaging theme where the best highlight is surely Hal’s voice; the song is about never giving up or turning back during our life. It has been followed by the singles Blaze (analyzed here), Hazan and Ai no kusari (Love chain) and the conceptual album Generation.
The lead-track, entitled Kiseki no tsubasa (Wings of miracle), has a more positive and fresh tone, even maintaining the energy already seen by this band; the song is about making happen our dreams. It has been followed by the singles Triskelion and Naniwa Samba.
The title-track has a more playful and thoughtless theme, featuring properly the tempo of samba, with punk and upbeat influences; the song is about a cheerful and warm dance, in a summer setting. It has been followed by the album Lionheart, the singles Valencia to Virginia (Valencia and Virginia) and Persona Shoujo (Person girl), the album Sambara and the single Gloria -Eikou no kizuna- (Gloria -Tie of the glory-).
The title-track summarizes in an efficient way the warmest and brightest tones of Fest Vainqueur, in a colorful and fresh atmosphere; the song is about the glory, achieved only in a worthy life. It has been followed by the compilation Best Vainqueur.
Fest Vainqueur is the classical band which has made few things, but the result has always been positive, helped by a fresh and current rock sound, which sometimes receives even peculiar influences. In the visual kei universe, where the bands abound and often there’s plenty of choice, this band represents a middle way between an energetic rock band, with a great technical predisposition, and a colorful and sometimes funny oshare kei band, a genial mix, where all the elements work perfectly (as a second guitarist joined them after two years from the debut, improving more the instrumental component), especially Hal’s voice, which is sweet-sounding and youthful, suitable even for a younger audience. So this band, after six years, continue to be a fascinating musical act, worth to follow, especially with their latest single, entitled Higanbana -Oirandouchuu- (Amaryllis -Courtesan along the way-), released last Wednesday, where their concept moved to a more traditional image, closer to Japanese folklore.
Who might enjoy: who is looking for an energetic and sweet visual rock band, without obligation.
Recommended songs: Unlimited, Blaze, Kiseki no tsubasa, Naniwa Samba, Lionheart -Lifetime wish-, Persona shoujo and Gloria -Eikou no kizuna-.
That’s all folks! See you tomorrow for the last post of this October 2016 in “Best of... October 2016″!
Thanks for the reading!
