Everytime Rei successfully ventures out of her apartment and finds a good place to sit, whether it be a bench or a park (there aren’t many parks in new Tokyo 3, unfortunately: the EVAs keep on destroying the trees there) without encountering anyone that may bug her/is loud in the distance, her mood lightens up just a bit.
She saw herself onetime before. It was probably just an illusion.
