#sinister moth

hello!! I’d love IDs on these two beautiful moths I recently found in melbourne, australia. thanks so much 🩷

Hi! The first friend is a southern moon moth, Dasypodia selenophora. Despite the name, it's in the family Erebidae rather than Saturniidae like most of the other moon moths people are familiar with.

The second one is Pholodes sinistraria - a personal fav Australian species since its common name is the sinister moth. Very goth. Obviously given the big silly antennae, yours is a male.

They're destructive.

Some are, a lot are, but they live in all kinds of ways. Just like we do.
