Before Hayle could agree a shimmer split the air as a portal opened, and Chris stepped through wearing his business suit, his face carved with concern. Hayle’s heart sank. Chris wouldn’t have come himself unless it was dire. “It’s Jayden, isn’t it?” Hayle asked, already knowing.
She didn’t flinch. Her gaze locked onto the monster across the room. “It’s me you want,” she said, her voice trembling but defiant.
The man laughed, cruel and cold. “Don’t flatter yourself, little empath. We came for all of you. Although, this human isn’t much. We could have searched the world over and not found a stronger empath than you or your father. He proved a challenge right from the start.”
I'm working on part 2. I rewrote parts of this chapter because it felt a little off but now I'm happy with it. Part 1 of the chapter will be posted soon.
