An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
fic rec! 45K, yes, ABO Sheith.
Summary: "Hey there," the alpha says with a smile. "Nice to be off work, huh?"
Keith can't get out of talking to him. "Yeah," he says to the floor. He doesn't say anything else. Maybe the alpha will leave him alone.
"I'm Shiro," the man says. He doesn't hold out his hand to shake. Instead he does the way less intimidating, way more polite finger wiggle-wave that doesn't force omegas to make contact with alphas they don't know.
Keith swallows. He doesn't get waved to very often. Most alphas he's dealt with say screw politeness and go right into trying to touch. "Keith.”
Comments: Look, I don't often read ABO fics. (*waves her ace flag*) But I got hooked on this one because it starts outs as a romance between two mall workers (suit shop and valet AU, anyone?) and then it turned very much into the tone of a sickfic. When Keith does go into heat, Shiro's care is focused on anything *but* sex. He's making sure Keith feels safe, comfortable, and gets through it without dehydration or starvation. In many ways, the series is about the two of them learning how to be vulnerable with each other and not be embarrassed by their needs, even if they're as simple as wearing the other's shirt. Is there smut? Yes, but it's by no means the focus and very easy to skip.
