watching the robert pov after having seen the kleptonox pov first is really interesting. i imagine it's the same vice versa

because like. robert is really interesting because, compared to just about everybody else, he's kind of a nobody. just some guy. he's the peasant; a farmer. all he does is work; work on the farm, work on cooking, work on getting enchants, work on making sure everyone has what they need to survive. he cares deeply for his kingdom, his friends, to the point where he is unwilling to leave even when given the option and having perfectly valid reason to because he needs to make sure they're okay. that's the only thing that matters to him.

he gives things away so that the others have a better chance of making it out. he doesn't fight unless he has to, and a lot of the time even when he is attacked, rather than defending himself, his first instinct is instead to run and hide. he literally begs for purple to leave them alone, to call off their attack, and when it doesn't work he just...goes back home. because he doesn't know what else to do.

he makes friends easily; basically everybody likes him, and so they usually (keyword being usually lol) leave him alone (e.g. dye going out of their way to not destroy his farm and even willingly TELLING HIM that they were the one that blew up the base at all, and that it wasn't personal)

robert's view of kleptonox is very skewed for most of the smp. compared to most of the others, he doesn't actually interact with him much, so his perception of kleptonox is that he's just an evil tyrant that showed up one day and took over. he can't do anything about that; he's just the peasant (which robert removing his own autonomy is another really interesting thing about his character but we don't got time for that rn). he kinda likes him, because, well, kleptonox is fucking awesome, hype moments and aura and all that, but beyond that, he doesn't really care much for him or the way he handles things

he doesn't know that kleptonox is actually kinda like him. (putting under a read more 'cause this is getting reaaally long lol)

kleptonox is a hard worker, and sees so much value in that. he believes that people must earn their positions; that being given high status just because you were born into it or otherwise through nepotism is absurd! he proves it by going into the mines, helping with the moat, getting lava, etc.

he was told that he was nothing. that he could never be anything. his true name literally means worthless runt, for crying out loud. robert, being a peasant, would've been taught much the same. because society doesn't care for the poor; even the hardest of workers have little value. they will work you to the bone until there is nothing left, and they won't care that you're gone.

of course, kleptonox is also still very different from him. he loves the thrill of battle; he happily goes into every fight. his whole mo is literally that he wants to prove the notion that violence is a viable option for taking over. he enjoys being evil and goes out of his way to make enemies. and he's very good at it! everybody kinda just immediately hates him, except for the people in gold kingdom, but even some of them don't like him until later!

he takes. that's what he does! i mean, it's literally in the name. he takes and he takes and he takes. but, simultaneously, he does give; for the same reason robert does. because he cares.

in the end, he cares so much that he willingly puts himself in danger by giving up any totems of loyalty he's given to others and LIES about being attuned to the kingdom of nothing's pillar so that the others don't worry about him!

kleptonox's perception of robert is so...positive. he sees him as a friend (well, at least, when he learns of that concept). as someone he can depend on and that he trusts to get things done and be responsible. i mean, he even appoints robert as leader when he has to leave, and that was before he even really knew him that well! (which like. how seriously that should be taken is debatable but it did happen so)

i don't really have like. a grand point or anything i was tryna build to here or anything, i just find it so fascinating 'cause i've been watching robert's pov and the difference is ASTOUNDING

JUNE OF ARC continues!  Mondays and Fridays all June long!

JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. When Joan was 16 years old, the English were sieging the city of Orléans, and her Voices told her it was her job to banish them.  She had to go to Vaucouleurs, acquire knightly escort from Sir Robert, travel through enemy territory to Chinon, meet the dauphin (the uncrowned prince of France), offer her leadership to his army, go to Orléans, raise the siege, then escort the dauphin through more enemy territory to be crowned in the city of Reims (which was the traditional place for French coronations).  Super easy.  Barely an inconvenience. 2. Sir Robert de Baudricourt met with Joan but denied her request for escort twice before finally giving in.  Her persistence won her the support of the townsfolk first, then some of Robert's knights, then finally Robert himself.  She's our perSISTER in Christ! 3. In this cartoon, Robert is suspicious of Joan, saying her request to see the dauphin can't be serious.  She assures him it "DAUPHIN-ately" is, which is a play on the word "definitely" using the word "dauphin".
