The Rock Fusion Band Siren Premieres Their 3rd Album ‘Beyond the Rainbow’
Siren is the progressive fusion of rock, jazz, metal, and blues, who originally formed in the early 1980’s. The band’s leading man, Rob Philips, started playing guitar in 1979 and started to write original songs in 1981. He formed a band around this time and came up with the group's name Siren. In 1984, they recorded a two song 45 vinyl and in 1985 they released a four song cassette tape. While they were signed by a German record label and recorded a full album in 1986, Rob left the band shortly after as he was not interested in playing Heavy Metal.
It wasn't until 2005 that he reformed the band with Mike Cupino (Engineer/Drummer) as writing partner, this time with a more progressive approach. Since then, they have released 3 albums and added the likes of Chris Bonelli on Bass and Chip Gardner on Keys, and Todd Grubbs on lead guitar.
They just released their 3rd album, Beyond the Rainbow, a 9-track album with a progressive sound, heavily familiar to Foo Fighters meets Led Zeppelin. Each song brings their own blend of rock to the table. The album is two years in the making and an attempt to push themselves to see what they are capable of achieving.
“Beyond the Rainbow was an attempt to push ourselves and see what we're capable of achieving, at times experimenting with the purpose of making the songs even more complex and out in left field,” shares Rob Phillips. “Most of the songs are story based as are most of our songs. A lot of the songs are about women and personal experiences in my life. I find it is best for me to draw from that well for writing and conveying the message with emotion. Sometimes that can be pain or joy.”
