I created this piece a few weeks ago for a contest celebrating the 4th season release of #themagicians show on syfy. I spent a whole week on it, firstly because I had a lot of catching up to do, and then because I wanted to get everything just right. It was a huge challenge. I had never created such a huge artwork with so many different characters, nonetheless with real human faces to paint. All of the characters had to make sense within the group, each one had to tell a story. I had to come up with visual answers for questions like why did I put them there, or with that other character...or why those clothes, those gestures, those accessories. I battled my way to finish it and was super proud. I went to look at other contestants entries and believed strongly that I had real possibility to win that contest. But, in the end, I didn't even place amongst the 25 semi-finalists. I was crushed for a long while. It made me feel like my art is worthless and there's no point in practicing to get better and trying to make a life out of it. It took some time, but then I realised that this piece had broken my soul, but had also forced me to think more about composition. Also, it made push my skills to better resemble the actor's faces . It made me work more on clothing textures, and review how fabrics fold. It made me get creative to represent magic...It had so many good things tgat it teached me, but I was letting myself get desmotivated just because somebody else didn't think I was a winner. Maybe I didn't won the contest, but I learned so much from creating this illustration that not winning doesn't matter anymore. I have a dream and I will never give up while I believe that it is worth achieving it. And also, I have one very special person on my side whom I love very much and is always supporting me no matter what. And for this person too, I MUST KEEP GOING!
