The Bergl Room at The Hofburg Palace, Vienna. Commissioned by the great Empress Maria Theresa, and completed by Johann Wenzel Bergl, 1766. Johann Wenzel Bergl was one of Empress Maria Theresa’s favourite artists. Along with the Bergl Room at The Hofburg Palace, Bergl was also commissioned to decorate the Empress’ summer apartments on the ground floor of the Schönbrunn Palace. These are equally unique and beautiful. The Bergl Room is decorated in trompe l’oeil landscape murals consisting of rich foliage, exotic animals and bountiful fruits.
