Meet Jay, he’s 27 years old. He’s comfortable in his skin as a mature student at uni studying fine art. A keen listener of podcasts, audiobooks and music, he is often seen with his headphones on.
Since leaving school, Jay has worked in multiple jobs, travelled the world, explored his personality and eventually decided that uni was a good place to go now he was comfortable in his skin.
He enjoyed exercise, but didn’t go to the gym all the time. He had a flamboyant dress sense, but was often found in joggers and a hoodie at home.
After a long chat over coffee with his fellow students, some 9 years his junior, he decided to start a podcast. Here he is listening back to his first episode shortly after it was published.
His podcast was fairly popular, not record breaking but he had a few hundred listeners each week within the first 3 months. He had a discord server where listeners could recommend audiobook recommendations and Jay would then review. One audiobook always made him sleepy, after 4 or 5 attempts one week he gave up. The recommendation came from a discord user with the username “ArtFan53”, there was almost always at least one recommendation from that user every week.
One subject that was covered in the podcast on a frequent basis was self care, how to look after yourself whilst being part of the student community. One thing that Jay had taken upon himself to test on behalf of his listeners was the benefits of a consistent routine when it comes to exercise, diet and skincare. Jay’s improved skincare routine and now longer hair leant him to a “Modern Gods” photography project by Carly, who he had met through one of his house mates.
By publishing weekly podcasts, many of the listeners would comment on the changes they were noticing. Especially those who were part of the discord or followed him on Instagram.
Jay had been spending quite a lot of time listening to things he was sent by podcast fans, often falling asleep listening to submissions.
On top of his improved skincare routine he had begun exploring using makeup to improve his appearance, to contour his jawline, to define his features. He also spent time shaping his eyebrows, borrowed a housemates IPL to reduce facial hair.
Jay had written a blog along with his podcast from about Episode 10, aimed at sharing links to resources that he mentioned in the pod and keeping track of everything. In one blog post he had shared that he had been getting lessons in voice feminisation to explore his identity more, what he didn’t reveal at that time was that he was exploring his identity as a whole. It was around this time he started presenting as female at home & occasionally at uni.
Working out was a massive part of Jay’s day now, he sent this photo to ‘ArtFan53’ as a direct message. By now he was talking to this user throughout the day, and frequently referred to them as his mentor and guide to friends.
The podcast was soon getting thousands of listens a week, and the buzz Jay was getting from the engagement was unmeasurable. The Student Union approached him with the idea of a live recording of the podcast, a charity fundraiser but also a chance for students in the media faculty to produce a live show and a podcast episode.
The photo below was sent to his mentor after Jay had finished getting ready to go to the live show rehearsal. Every item he was wearing had been suggested by ArtFan53, who was now saved in Jay’s phone as ‘David <3’.
At the rehearsal of the live show Jay met Amy, Jake, Pippa and Carly. The team of 4 worked on the student radio station, and had been following Jay’s podcast since the beginning.
Finishing the second year of uni was certainly a different feeling to finishing first year. It was almost impossible to hide the effects hormones had been having on Jay’s appearance now. He had been keeping this secret for months, and knew at some point this summer he would have to explain everything to his family.
Jay & David grew closer over the summer, whilst they didn’t meet they had begun to strike up a proper romance. Over the summer, Jay had discovered that David had been sending hypnosis audiobooks that he had been producing himself. Designed to start as a normal book and then introduce hypnotic trances. There was no anger at this revelation, in fact Jay felt gratitude towards him.
Introducing Chloe to the whole world, after a summer of true self discovery, was a relief. Everything felt lighter for her, no more hiding just pure self expression without fear. The first episode of series 2 was released on the first Wednesday of term, and by lunchtime on Thursday had already exceeded expectations. The introduction of a zoo format was heavily promoted after the first episode was live.
Over the course of the next few months, the team discussed amongst themselves and with guests a wide range of subjects relevant to uni life.
One interview was so well received that the uni changed policy towards how it tackled mental health issues within the student body. Here is a little clip from that interview.
Spring was right around the corner, and life for Chloe was getting real. She had been spending most weekends with her boyfriend, David. But focusing on her degree was always a key priority.
Every week we were fighting against societies wanting to get onto the podcast to highlight what they were doing. It felt like everyone at uni was paying attention to our project. In the meantime, things were getting serious with David & Chloe.

As graduation approached rapidly life after uni was the only topic of conversation, and for Chloe her future felt like she was destined to spend it with David.
Who would have thought that a little bit of hypnosis, persistence and the willingness to let go and explore oneself would lead to this point.
The podcast gang stayed in touch almost daily, this is a photo that David took the day Chloe moved in with him.
Fast forward 9 months and Chloe was about to meet the gang for a reunion live podcast recording with the team that replaced them as the go to guide to uni life.
Life with David was amazing, he had helped Chloe develop her career as an inclusion advisor for businesses. She had signed a contract with one of the big supermarkets to review their entire operations, to celebrate David treated her to a fancy dinner.
When she started uni, exercise was really not something she did as a regular event but with her wedding approaching it was key that she kept in shape.
The wedding day was unforgettable. Chloe had her nearest and dearest friends and family as well as David’s family and friends fill the day with love.
One of her fellow art students gave them their most treasured gift a few weeks after the wedding, it hangs up in their living room. A wonderful watercolour of their wedding day. What they loved the most is the fact she captured the hilarious moment where David stood on Chloe’s dress without noticing.
Now, I’ve shared this story with you in quite a bit of detail. But I haven’t shared with you where the story came from. David has helped curate this story, and he has a note for readers. But first, a photo taken of the pair on their anniversary at the same hotel as they enjoy a couples game of golf.
So, here is a little note from David:
“How we got here? Well, I stumbled upon the podcast and found it fascinating that someone was willing to explore their core self. I’d had a number of relationships with submissive sissy types, and I’d always wanted to create the perfect one for me. So I made some fake audiobooks that introduced “Jay” into the themes of feminisation, but I wasn’t expecting him to take to it so well. So I kept creating more stuff, and he just lapped it up. Eventually sending me photos as the hypnosis tracks had instructed, some quite innocent some not. I never thought that we’d meet, or that Chloe would exist in real life at all. Everything from the hormones to surgery was a welcomed moment in our journey. I’d finally cracked her. I meant no malice, I fell so deeply for her. She is truly perfect. I’m so grateful for you for sharing our story.”
