SPOILERS FOR K-POP DEMON HUNTERS!
Summary: {Post-Canon} It's their first real night together after the events of the Honmoon, and Rumi's feeling scared and vulnerable. Zoey and Mira remind her she's forever family.
Rumi’s hands trembled slightly as she looked in the mirror, eyes trailing the fading purple marks along her skin. Permanent reminders of who she was and what she’ll forever be. A half-demon.
It’s fine. She reminded herself sharply. They know now.
It didn’t make leaving the bathroom any easier. She stared at the marks along her arms and stomach one last time before turning on her heels, forcing herself to walk towards the living room.
There, she heard voices. Zoey’s adorable giggles mixed with Mira’s dry humor as they flipped through movie options. The coffee table was topped from edge to edge with snacks and drinks, fuzzy blankets tossed over their legs and a scented candle burning somewhere nearby. They were squished together, two perfect halves of Rumi’s heart. She felt her feet start to slow, suddenly hesitant to intervene.
They always knew she was in the room. Their gazes looked back, focusing on her. They trailed her body, from her train-coated pajama pants to the cropped tank top she always loved but suddenly felt strange now that her markings were present. They locked onto her face, and Rumi prayed her expression wasn’t too nervous.
There were no words. Mira scooted back some from Zoey, making a hole. Said girl pulled back the blanket, patting the spot between them invitingly.
Rumi bit her lip as her eyes burned, almost running to the spot and settling between them. Her fears melted away, leaving her feeling dizzy with relief. “So, what are we watching?”
“Business Proposal!” Zoey all but squealed, making them laugh. “It’s Mira’s favorite!”
“You don’t have to keep picking my favorites. I’ll watch whatever you want.” The other gave a weak defense, her arm coming around Rumi’s shoulders in a loose hug.
“Yeah but you have the best taste in the group. Why would we not watch it?” Rumi snuggled against her, nearly crying again when Zoey laid across her lap- head against her chest and arms looped around her waist. Just like that, she’d become one with their squish. “Besides, I’m always in the mood for some Kang Tae-Moo.”
“Oo, someone’s got a crush~” Zoey teased in a singsong voice, just like she always did whenever Rumi openly swooned for the lead. Mira made mock kissy noises in her ear, making her duck and giggle. Why was she afraid of this again? “Ready?”
“Not yet.” Oh. Right. Rumi felt her anxiety shoot up at Mira’s sudden tone shift, unable to look back. “Rumi, this isn't right.
Oh gods. She tried to get up, eyes misting. “I’m sorry-”
Any moves, words or tears she was about to let out vanished with a loud, unadulterated squeal. A noise she let out herself! “Nohohohohohohoo! Whahahit, wahahahit, cohohohome ohohohohon!”
“Come on, nothing! You came in here like you were about to be on death row!” Zoey chided with mock anger, her fingers rapid as they wiggled into her bare stomach and sides. “We can’t have a K-drama night with you looking so sad! It throws off the whole vibe!”
“Yeah! Plus it makes us feel bad. You know we love you- we’ll always love you! No matter what your blood is!” Mira did sound angry, but her words and touch were so genuinely loving and gentle it softened the blow. “So don’t look at us like that. Like we’ll turn our back on you ever again.”
“Iihihihi’m sohohohorry! Ehehaehhaa, I’m sohohohohorry! It’s my aahahanxiihihihe-EhEHEhehehehehehehhe!” Rumi nearly flew out of their embrace when Zoey began tracing the markings along her skin. “Nohohohohoho, cuhuhuht thahahaht ohohohout!”
“Whoa, Mira! I found a new tickle spot!” Zoey cheered, practically glowing. “Trace her marks!”
“Oh?” Said woman did just that. The ones along her shoulders seemed especially sensitive. “Would you look at that. I think we found a new way to keep our precious Rumi happy.”
“Noohohooho! Nohohoho whahahahy! Thahaht’s sohohoho unfahha-EEHEHEhahahahhaaAHHAHAIR!” No matter how much kicking and squirming she did, Rumi couldn’t escape. Not that she’d want to, really. As ticklish as it was, their embraces were so warm and comforting. She could live with them abusing this newfound ticklish of hers if it meant she could stay with them forever. “Ahhahahaha, Zohohohoohohoey!”
“Yehehes?” The brunette mocked her sweetly, pretending to color in a mark against her waist. “You know, you should get some iridescent body paint and really have these stand out on stage! You’d look like a fairy!”
“She was a fairy.” Mira quoted automatically.
“Stohohohohop quohohohoting tihihihktohohohok! EHahhahaa-AHH!” Mira’s hand in the back of her neck had her scrunching up and squirming down. “Pleahahahhahase! Pleahahahhase enohohohough! I’m hahahappy! I prohohomise I’m hahahahappy!”
“Hmmm..okay.” The tickles came to an end, but the embrace remained. Mira pulled her up gently by the arms, giving her armpits one last tickle and making her squeal. Zoey chirped with mirth at that, snuggling into her chest once more and getting comfortable. “Hehe, your heart is racing like a bird.”
“Oohohoho, that could be a soohong.” Rumi huffed out, ever the workaholic. “Ohoohr a lhehheryic.”
“Hey, we’re on break today.” Mira reminded gently, giving them both a squeeze. “No song planning…I’ll write that down.”
“Already did!” Zoey held up her phone, grinning. Then she tossed it aside, hand lazily reaching for the remote so they could watch their show. “Kang Tae-Moo time!”
“Whooooo!” The three cheered, dissolving into laughter as Love Maybe began to play. Rumi shifted until she was properly snuggled into Mira, one hand in Zoey’s hair while the other found the redhead’s. It was warm, and when she laced their fingers, it squeezed back firmly. She felt Mira place a sweet, subtle kiss to her crown, sending waves of comfort through her core. “I love you girls.”
“We love you too.” Zoey whispered, and Mira’s hand squeezed hers again.
