Hello! Hope you're doing well in this fine November weather.
I know you've probably hear this a million times but Gloaming County has genuinely got me back into loving digital horror and has been one of the first series I am genuinely obsessed over. (You've probably seen it too, it's really hard to keep quiet about something you deeply love, haha.) I feel like the series is just enough challenge and lore where it's not too hard to keep track and study but it's still genuinely entertaining and those "aha" moments are just sweet.
Also, thank you for adding accessibility for the websites and such, it's really nice because I've often found a lot of roadblocks (mostly mistakes and errors, happens to the best of us). It genuinely makes me happy to see since I often find a lot of ARGs hard to get into due to complexity.
The usage of your materials is impressive, especially the Gloaming website. I swear, even for someone like me who loves their tech, that's genuinely really impressive. (Making Google sites functional is hard, let alone as polished as you've done it.)
Thank you, and thank you again for this wonderful little series! Every time I see something new that comes up I get really excited to see what's next. Please take care of yourself and keep up the good work!
(Also, would you ever consider making a merch store? I'd love to buy some prints or stickers.)
Thank you so much! Hope you're doing well too. :)
This is so great to hear! I've put so much time and work into setting everything up, so it's been awesome to see everyone diving in and trying to put all the pieces together.
Honestly I love ARGs but a lot of them can be really unapproachable, especially to newer players or people who are in it more for the story aspect than the code-cracking. I want GC to be on the easier end. Still full of mysteries and layers, but not impassably difficult for more casual players/viewers. My worst nightmare would be for people to get stuck or give up before discovering all that the story has to offer.
Deciding to use Google Sites was a *choice* for sure. When I started, I honestly didn't think the site would become this involved. I've had to get really creative within the limitations, but it's served me well enough so far for the needs of the story. One day when I have more energy I would really love to port everything over to standard website platform with more customizability like Neocities, but for now it does the trick!
On the subject of limitations & accessibility:
Also, thank you for adding accessibility for the websites and such, it's really nice because I've often found a lot of roadblocks (mostly mistakes and errors, happens to the best of us)
I try my best! I manually type subtitles for every upload and try to add alt text for all significant images, but as you've probably seen, it's definitely a WIP!! But please feel free to message/comment specific pages or instances where this can be improved. I'd really love the outside perspective.
(Also yes, I would totally love to make official merch eventually!! I actually have some test sticker prints of the town mascot from way back when I started this project. c: )
