THE BASICS: SITE POSSIBILITIES

My last year at ocad officially starts in 2 weeks. For the summer, however, we were encouraged by our professors to continue doing research and preparing ourselves for it. One of the things we had to keep in mind was where the physical manifestation of our project would be - our site. They encouraged us to stay in Toronto because we (themselves and the rest of the students) know more about the city since we all generally live there.

I broke down the ideal site's characteristics as the following:

1. DOWNTOWN URBAN AREA - the thesis' proposition is to relocate funerary architecture back into the heart of the city to connect the living and the dead.

2. EASILY SEEN OR RECOGNIZABLE (VISIBLE PRESENCE) - having a project that establishes its presence well into the urban fabric will fulfill the part of the agenda (9 points) that aims to make the project an architectural memento mori.

3. A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE CONSTANTLY GATHER (CAN BE, BUT NOT NECESSARILY, SEEN AS A RESPITE FROM THE HUSTLE OF THE CITY - I.E., A CITY SQUARE) - in order to reach th elargest amount of people with my message, the project needs to be located at a place where people constantly gather

...with my project in mind, doesn't the TD Centre (the four black skyscrapers in the right side of the image) start to look like giant tombstones?
