This scene in ROTS has always bugged me(arguably the most important of all 3 eps)! I don’t like it at all(Ian McDiarmid, bless his heart, is too over the top…it’s comical…he needed to dial that shit back a bit). It just never stuck the landing to me(he’s scary as fuck in ROTJ). I think maybe it woulda worked better if Mace had let Anakin go w/ him to arrest Palpatine(like Vader brings Luke to him). When the two Jedi arrive, the Sith Lord reveals his true form(he’d been using Sith magic to MASK his appearance this whole time). I mean why not, the jig is up. We all fantasized about how the Emperor ended up looking like that…I just never liked how it went down in the movie. Why would he need to appear weak to Anakin to make him turn(he already had him w/ the Padme hook). I think he would want to show him how powerful he was w/ the DARK SIDE…that he had powers beyond the Jedi. So…words are exchanged! Mace attempts to kill Sidious…Anakin steps in to fight him. Once Anakin weakens Mace, Sidious finishes him off w/ force lightning!!! It seems like GL was trying to mirror the throne room scene anyway…I just wish he’d done it w/ more precision.😔
