Today's daily dragon is Sixclaws!!
Mostly this was an excuse to try a different angle. And also to figure out how the hell to add an extra claw because as it turns out space is very limited on claws. But I think it looks alright!!

Happy late Father’s Day to Sixclaws and only Sixclaws aka probably the best dad in WoF
I looks really worried and I can’t figure out why
Yooo guess what I finally finished! Here's the old pen version for comparison- https://www.deviantart.com/iron-zing/art/Wings-of-Fire-Sandwing-character-studies-678802658 I uploaded my designs of the three sisters back in May when everybody was posting designs for them. But here they are again haha. I'll just copy/paste my design info from the other pic: For Burn I wanted to have her look 'burned', so I made the edges of her scales and her sail darker. I think the contrast between her lighter body color and her dark horns/sail looks cool. I had a really tough time with her scars, like how would scars on top of scales even look? Hopefully it turned out okay
A lot of fan interpretations of Blister make her the palest of the sisters which I think looks sweet, and I almost went that route myself. But then :devg0ldenguts: was talking about her in Discord and had the galaxy brain idea of her being tinted red like an actual blister and everyone was like YOOOOOOOO. So pinkish Blister it is. She looks sunburned lmao. I like the colors I chose for her horns tho I think the mahogany looks good
And for Blaze, in book three she is described as being 'white gold' but since I based the looks of the first two on their names, I wanted to continue the trend and give her a more 'blazing' color scheme. At first I chose colors that were way more saturated, but then she ended up looking too similar to Sunny, so I had to tone it back down a bit. I don't think she was ever described with jewelry outside of some rings on her talons, but this is Blaze we're talking about, I just had to give her more accessories. Designing a crown that would fit over her sail was challenging but I like how it turned out.
Queen Thorn looks the most like a typical Sandwing to fit my trend of the Queens being the generic model of their species. Doing that helps me make sure that the rest of my designs aren't too exaggerated, since I can look at Thorn and say 'Ok yes, the Sandwing in the 'Guide to Dragons' has a face like this. When she's Queen she wears the Eye of Onyx but I wanted to draw her with her moonstone necklace here.
Smolder is canonically really similar looking to Blister since they were in the same hatching, but I didn't want to give him the exact same color scheme. So I took the pinks from Blister and kinda blended them with a bit of pale yellow. After I was finished drawing him I realized that all my Royal Family dragons have like.....the same kind of nose. The horns on their noses are more on the tip of their snouts rather then behind the nostrils like normal Sandwings. I think that was just my style distorting the canon anatomy, but looking back, it makes them distinctive and also makes them all look related. So it worked out okay. Also drawing all those keys and pouches and bells was HELL.
My original design for Six Claws looked a little too close to Burn, so I decided to change the shape of his snout a bit. I gave him a stronger chin and changed the curve of his horns. I have the headcanon that Sandwing soldiers will often cut their sails short, I think it gives the impression of a military buzzcut. So both he and Dune have very short sails.
Speaking of Dune, I decided to give him the palest color scheme out of everyone, since I imagine that living in caves for years w/o the sun and heat of the desert would make his scales get dull. Also I don't know if the stone around his neck ever got a detailed description beyond just 'a weird rock'.
Sunny was pretty easy since she's on the cover of book 5. I found an HD version of it and zoomed way in on her face to try and see exactly what Nightwing features she displayed. I couldnt tell what the top of her head looked like so I kinda guessed, I think it looks good. Seeing her next to all these pure Sandwings really makes her stand out, I can see now why everyone would think she was a 'weird color' for a Sandwing.
For Qibli I just had to give him the sail curl that's popular in fan designs. I feel like it fits him really well haha. In my initial pen drawing I made his face way too short, so I made sure to fix that with this design. I always write way too much about my design process, does anyone even read it? XD Oh well! It's fun to discuss how I come up with my ideas. Next I think I'll do Icewings, but I have a lot on my plate atm so idk when I'll get around to that. Thanks for reading!

mod dice is here with some SixClaws!
This is another piece that is absolutely not ship art and if you treat it as such I will come to your house and throw your device of internet usage out of the window myself. Don't test me. Don't leave any creepy comments, either - these are characters from a children's series, so be appropriate and respectful. Second part of Day 4 of the LGBT WOF Week - a couple of trans dudes! Six-Claws in the back is a trans man, and Umber in the front is a trans boy. Umber has sideways horns like a cow, and also tusks bc MudWings deserve them. Six-Claws may or may not be a direct descendant of the Styracosaurus. (He actually just has a lot of horns bc he's old.) They're good guys.
