BIOGRAPHY

Born into wealth and privilege, Draco Malfoy was raised to believe he deserved the very best of everything the world had to offer. As an only child, he carried on his shoulders the weight of his family’s legacy. For all young Draco was the perfect Malfoy heir, he was also a child of the House of Black. With one of his aunts in Azkaban and the other estranged from the family, Draco was set to inherit all of the Black family’s power, money, and history. 

Even at a young age, Draco was always aware of the importance of both his bloodlines and he grew into a proud and arrogant boy, cruel to those he deemed inferior to himself, warm and affectionate to his family and closest friends, though that was a side of Draco not many got to witness. Though he longed for his father’s love and acceptance, Draco was undoubtedly closer to his mother with Narcissa being the leading influence on his life.

At Hogwarts, he was immediately sorted into Slytherin House. Though the rivalry between himself and Harry Potter soon became public knowledge and Draco was extremely confrontational with students from the other Houses–especially those who criticized his father–he thrived in Slytherin, surrounding himself with friends and allies both, all drawn to the power and privilege of the Malfoy name. 

At the end of Draco’s fourth year, everything started to change. It marked the Dark Lord’s return–something his father had been preparing for as long as Draco could remember–and Draco soon began to learn the Dark Arts necessary for him to one day join Voldemort’s army, first from Lucius and then from Bellatrix Lestrange herself.

Draco’s relationship with his father had been complicated since the start, with Draco never feeling like he was quite capable of living up to his father’s expectations of himself–and his relationship with his aunt was even more so, with Draco terrified of her, but still eager to impress her. 

With Lucius in Azkaban and news of the Dark Lord’s return spreading throughout the country, the chance to prove himself finally came. Draco took the Dark Mark eagerly, grateful for the opportunity to show the world what he was really capable of, though he soon began to suspect being a Death Eater was not all he’d hoped it’d be, all too aware that he’d already gone too far to still be allowed to walk away unscathed.

BIOGRAPHY

Elias Greengrass was already married when he met Veronica Grimani. Young, beautiful, and bold, with dreams of faery tales and castles, she was a vision, and he was weak. What started as a single night’s indiscretion became a years-long affair. It wasn’t until Veronica fell pregnant that Elias started to reconsider the arrangement; hoping for a son, he made plans to cast aside his wife, with whom he’d already fathered a daughter. Imagine Elias’ disappointment when his son never came – instead, Astoria was born, small and healthy and, in Elias’ eyes, completely unnecessary.

It was hardly a loss. As a child, the gravity of such a disavowal didn’t occur to her; she had her mama, and grandparents who adored her, and an incredible sister, and could want for little else. Perhaps a sibling rivalry would have been expected under such circumstances, but Astoria and Daphne were close from the start, devoted to one another beyond whatever games their families insisted on playing to try and pit them against each other.  Elias’ disinterest was never violent, or cruel, and Astoria had a good life – he simply preferred his eldest, as his heir in business and the heir to his name – and rarely bothered to hide it.

She spent her summers in Venice with her grandparents, and every moment she could at her sister’s side. But after Daphne received her Hogwarts letter, Astoria was left alone, and in her solitude, she suffered as much as she thrived. Removed from her sister’s influence, however positive it was, she was forced to learn to fend for herself. Of course, this came with a price, and as she grew more assertive, her father began to recognize that she had potential. He had high standards, which she didn’t always meet, and saw too many of his own failings in Astoria; he pushed her, determined to correct those failings and instruct her to be better than he was, and she stumbled, trying to keep up.

A year later, she was Sorted into Slytherin, reunited with her sister yet again. Her mother had taught her the value of poise and prettiness, and trying to win her father’s approval had taught her the usefulness of staying silent and observing. With her bright eyes and her sweet smile, there was little, if anything, that she couldn’t twist to her own advantage. The summer before her fifth year, she met her mother’s first cousins, and her godparents – Amycus and Alecto Carrow, returned to England after years of hiding on the continent, seeking out the rumors of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s return and curious to find their allies. Astoria and Alecto have started writing letters to one another, which Astoria hides from Daphne, fearing that Daphne will worry about her. (She’ll tell her eventually – but really, is there anything to tell?)
