kaohsiung: kaohsiung museum of history, takao railway museum, former british consulate, dream mall

We made our way to the Love River in Kaohsiung. 

Okay yeah, I've ranted about this before, but "Love River"? Really? Who names these things?

I appreciated this though: there was a team of fire fighters doing dragonboat practice, and on the other side of the shore, a group of young children, probably around the age of 5 or so, watching them. The teacher told them to chant "jia you" and they did! Just these little kids cheering the dragonboat team on. It was cute.

Anyway, eventually we got to a bridge that crosses the Love River.

And stumbled upon the Kaohsiung Museum of History. This building used to be the Kaohsiung City Hall. A lot of history in the building, especially relating to 228 Incident. I learned quite a bit here.

Taiwan is pretty interesting. The houses on the walk towards the Takao Railway Museum were quite unique. And you don't see men playing Chinese checks on a table atop rail road tracks everyday back in Canada.

Somehow this reminds me of the river in Suzhou. I realize those were brick buildings there, but the juxtaposition of housing next to transportation -- river or rail -- is interesting.

The Takao Railway Museum was alright. A lot of old trains to be seen in a very large field. Lots of kids taking pics with their graduation gowns.

We headed up to the Former British Consulate up at Sizihwan Bay. Really nice view of Kaohsiung, but that also meant that it was flooded with tourists. Oh well. Good reminder of how Kaohsiung is a port city, with all the freighters.

We headed to Dream Mall for dinner. There's a ferris wheel there!
