SAINT JAMES’ EPISCOPAL SCHOOL
Admission for the 2022-2023 school year opened to the public on February 1, and interest in our school is steady with the admissions office receiving many inquiries and tour requests. If you know anyone interested in preschool 2 through grade 5, please send them our way!
On March 10, we will premiere ‘Back to the Future Part 2: Skipper and Phoebee’s Excellent Adventure.’ The movie tracks our two beloved golden retrievers who are lost and the students and staff are trying to find them. Famous places are visited and famous people are consulted along the way! The movie will be accompanied by a variety of STEM activities for families to complete at home during spring break.
We received such great feedback about last year’s online auction and virtual reverse raffle that we are doing it again this year! Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 2, at 6pm for a “Night in Havana” and the opportunity to win $10,000! Last year, five lucky winners split the $10K and nine people won consolation prizes in the reverse raffle, plus many more won fabulous experiences and items through the online auction. We also dressed up, shared photos, enjoyed “boxtails” and had a ball! We know this year will be no different! We will start selling raffle tickets in early March and the online auction will be March 25 – April 1. We hope you will join in on the fun!
We are looking forward to spring and all the wonderful traditions it brings – Mother’s Day Tea, our elementary spring musicals, graduations and the Follow Me Ceremony. Did you know that the students in the first fifth grade class to graduate from SJES (Class of 2015) are graduating high school this year? We are so excited to see where life takes them after high school!

SJES WINTER 2021 UPDATE
Christmas at Saint James’ Episcopal School is such a special time. The classrooms are adorned with festive artwork made by students, holiday decorations deck the hallways, and sweet voices singing Christmas hymns fill the air with joy. Our cherished Christmas pageants will be videos again this year so be sure to look for them on the school YouTube channel. We wish you all a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Admissions for the 2022-2023 school year kicks off with an open house on Wednesday, December 8, from 5pm-7pm, and another on Saturday, January 8, from 9am-11am. Please be sure to RSVP using this form (which can also be found on the home page of the school website). Early application will be January 21 – 31 and, as a reminder, parishioners of Saint James’ automatically earn early application status. While early application status does not guarantee admission or first choice of class, it does allow parishioners to apply before admission is opened to the public and the $150 fee is waived. Interested parishioners should complete the Early Application form (which can also be found on the school website under Admissions > How to Apply). If you know someone who might be interested in our exceptional educational experience, please send them to the school website at saintjamesepiscopalschool.org or call the School office at 540-347-3855.
The new year also brings the 40th anniversary of our School so be on the lookout for special ways we will celebrate our school in 2022!
As always, we thank you for your continued support of our school.
SPOTLIGHT ON OUR SCHOOL

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR SCHOOL
The spirit of Christmas is in the air at SJES! The students returned from Thanksgiving break to a Christmas wonderland, thanks to the SJPA and a few helpers. In addition, songs are being rehearsed and videos are being made for the annual Christmas pageants.
For our December Service Project, we are working with SAFE (Services for Abused Families) to provide new hats, mittens/gloves, and scarves for women and children (boys and girls of all ages). Collection ends December 13, and the mitten tree is located in the main lobby of the school.
It’s hard to believe, but admission season for the 2022-2023 school year has also officially begun! SJES will host an open house on Wednesday, December 8, from 5pm-7pm for prospective families to meet faculty and staff and tour classrooms. Another open house will be held on Saturday, January 8, from 9am-11am. Don’t forget that Church parishioners receive early application status. If you are a parishioner and intend to apply to SJES, please go to the school website and use the Early Application link under Admission > How to Apply.

SAINT JAMES’ EPISCOPAL SCHOOL
On August 18, SJES welcomed 102 elementary students back to school in person Monday-Friday, along with nine new faculty and staff members. Smiles were plentiful, even under masks, as we started the school year together again in Saint James’ Episcopal Church for the annual Convocation ceremony. The church bell rang 39 times to signify the 39th year of early childhood education at Saint James’. Be sure to keep an eye out for exciting events to celebrate our 40th anniversary!
The main preschool hallway has been refreshed with new flooring and is ready for our youngest learners to return on September 7. There are still a couple spaces left in our 2 day, 3 year-old preschool class and our 4 day, 4 year old preschool class. Please share with those that might be interested!
We continue to abide by the collective guidance of the Church, the Episcopal Diocese, CDC, VDH and the state for health and safety protocols and monitor the pandemic and its effect on our local community. Like last year, hand sanitizing, frequent hand washing, masks, cohorts, and physical distancing protocols remain in place.
We remain steadfast in our mission to enrich these children with a love for God and learning, and a commitment to the greater good. We will take part in Episcopal Schools Celebration week (October 3-9), World Kindness Day (November 13), our monthly virtue studies, and our monthly Wednesday Eucharist services in the Church.
Lastly, we thank you for your continued support of the School. Our annual fund campaign will officially kick off in mid-September and donations can be made through the Support link on the School website. In addition, please be sure to mark your calendars for upcoming spirit nights:
Chick-fil-A (September 14),
Chipotle (October 10), and
Tana’s Kitchen Pot Pies (place your order November 1-5 for November 10-11 delivery!)
You can also support the school by:
Volunteering (fill out online form here)
Purchasing spirit wear (print form here and drop off with payment at school)
Linking your Harris Teeter VIC card to SJES (fill out online form here)
Please continue to pray for the health and safety of faculty, staff, students and families of Saint James’ Episcopal School as we embark on another school year. While challenges continue to test us all, our resilience and longing to be together to learn, play and grow reminds us to put our community first in all that we do.
SAINT JAMES’ EPISCOPAL SCHOOL SPRING QUARTERLY UPDATE

SAINT JAMES’ EPISCOPAL SCHOOL SPRING QUARTERLY UPDATE
Admission for the 2021-2022 school year opened to the public on February 1, and interest in our school has increased with the admissions office receiving many inquiries and tour requests. We continue to receive applications, and admission decisions will be made in mid-March.
For the last three years, we have held an interactive museum called Night at the Museum in which the students are the exhibits. This year the tradition continues, but in a new way, of course! On March 4, we will host ‘Back to the Future, a Mathematical Musical.’ The event will consist of a virtual movie featuring the students and staff at SJES as well as a variety of decade-themed STEM activities for families to complete at home. More details coming soon. To kick off the event and to prepare for the movie, the School hosted Decades Day in which the staff and students dressed up in fashion from their decade of choice between the 50’s-90’s.
If you were wondering why we didn’t hold the gala in the fall this year, it’s because our annual gala will be a week-long virtual Galapalooza this year! Please mark your calendars for April 23-30, and watch for emails regarding the exciting events planned, including an online auction, cocktail party, and more. This is the School’s largest fundraiser of the year, and we hope you will join in on the fun!
We are looking forward to spring and all the wonderful traditions it brings, even if they are virtual. We will still hold the beloved Mother’s Day Tea and our elementary spring musicals. Watch the School YouTube channel for the musical videos.
