Sk8park Soundsystem TRAILER / Antonin Carette / video: Alex Czapski
I have recently found this interview with Lannie Rhoades. The interview talks about himself, his work place and people he collaborates with when making skateboarding films.
This is Tony Hawks American Wasteland: It had a Jimbo Phillips inspired art. The artwork itself had been used to mark the pivot-able scenes in the game. As homage to this I want to do this through film, I will be looking to harness the skills of some illustrators to create some artwork for my piece. I am eager to get this all scripted and finalised.
Check out The Top 10 Skateboard Artists Right Now, and put a few of these on ice. It's going to be 2020 before you know it.
I looked at some skateboard artists that I would like to inspire the graphical side of my film piece. A lot of the work is very bold and in most cases make a statement. I would like to use this style throughout the film, maybe even capture this imagery within the film itself. This idea had been inspired by my own childhood, whilst gaming on Tony Hawks - American wasteland.
I would "In focus" with Mike Manzoori. It had been an insightful video, giving great tips on cinematography and what equipment to use when filming skateboarders. He even gives advice on cheaper alternatives to eye pieces (because of sun glare on LCD screens) and also on how to get the best sound. Since discovering "In focus" I'll be learning a lot more on how skaters are filmed. I have also noticed that most of the creative tracking shots have been through using a skateboard. A cheap alternative to getting still shots whilst tracking someone. I will be using this technique to capture skaters on the move. I have got some ability on a skateboard but I need to become more confident on them. Not only will I be learning cinematography for skateboarding, but I will also be learning how to skateboard myself for this project.
Some of the primary research methods I will be taking. I will also be looking at the books that this site advertises. I have already gotten in contact with a local skateboarding store in Middlesbrough called "Fat dog" which said they would ask some local skateboarders to see if they are interested in auditioning for roles in my piece I am still to await a reply from people that may be interested.
