"The skateboarding ethic, [Thomas] Kemp says, is 'an ethic of resiliency. I fall, I get up, I do it again.' It's an ethic of 'self-betterment. The skateboarder is always trying to do another trick. They're trying to do the trick better with more style. They're trying to do it in different places. They're comparing themselves to their past selves and not necessarily other skateboarders.' And it's an ethic that isn't really concerned with competition with others. Skateboarding, he says, is a non-zero sum game. 'In other words, if I do the trick, it doesn't matter that the other skateboarder didn't do the trick. I'm not in competition with them. I don't win, they lose, or I lose, they win. No, we're all winning — hopefully — compared to our previous selves.'"

·        Enj- Tried his hand on a long board when he was younger and ferre and courf were first getting into it, but never really got attached to it. He’s the first one of the trio to get a car, though, so he ends up making lots of trips there with his friends even if he isn’t skating.

·        Ferre- Pretty proficient at skate boarding, no matter the type of board. He played soccer when he was younger, so he knows his limits when it comes to balance and agility.

·        Courf- Literally a god at any kind of skating he tries. Long boards, penny boards, inline skates, roller skates, you name it. He has tried it and he has mastered it.

·        Bossuet- His mom bought him a pair of roller skates for his 13th birthday, but he only attempted to skate for about 15 minutes before he fell and broke his arm. Again. Since then, he still hangs out at the skatepark with his friends, but he tries to steer clear of anyone doing stunts. He still ends up getting run into occasionally, though.

·        Bahorel- Though he mostly sticks to the average skateboard, he’s the one supplying Courf with his unending list of skate equipment. He owns about every type of skate board and skate tool you could ever need, but he still just prefers your run of the mill skateboard.

·        Joly- He somehow still fits into Bossuet’s old skates, but he gets nervous about doing tricks and skating obstacles. He mostly just likes to cruise around in the kiddy part of the park, content to just know the basics.

·        Jehan- Has been roller skating since they were like 6, so they’ve got more than the basics mastered. They love making tiktoks and youtube videos with their friends at the skatepark, and at 15, they’re slightly internet famous for their skate dances.

·        R- Skating wasn’t even on his radar till he was like 17, but he does his best on one of Bahorel’s old cruisers. He’s the marketing genius and cameraman behind Jehan’s fame, and although he remains unseen behind the camera, the people love him for his snarky commentary.

·        Marius- God, no matter what his friends tell him, he looks like a complete beginner no matter what. I’m talking problems worse than mall grabbing. He flails his arms no matter what speed he’s going at, he screams every time he’s about to fall. Generally, just embarrassing to skate with, but they keep him around because they love him.

·        Feuilly- Like Courf, he’s proficient at all types of skating, but he loves the process of building skates more than the actual skating. He’s built multiple pairs of roller skates, and he’s got a little business going where he paints and assembles people’s boards for them.

·        Extra; Cosette- Her dad added a skate park addition to her backyard playground when she was younger. Saying he went overboard is an understatement, but it’s alright, because by the time she’s 16 she can do aerials on her roller skates without even having to leave her house.
