Enjoying the last days in Amsterdam, and the orange collage of the autumn leaves. With a well deserved beer from #Seef Brewery, bringing back to life #forgottenbeers. Like this #bootje bier, a #redamber #Belgian style beer with the influences of #Americancraftbeer. . . . #Antwerpbrewery #bootjebier #botjebeer #autumnbeer #skating #inlineskate #inlineskates #inlineskating #skatinginthepark #vondelpark #vondelparkamsterdam #saygoodbye (at Vondelpark Holland) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpR9yH0iyd9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=mcz7u78976wf
Pictures from todays skating adventure. To bad I work the next 7 days but hey have to make money some how. I’m just going to miss our cuddles. You’re number 1 babe! ❤️
I had the most wonderful day with my love yesterday. Skating in the park, dinner at Joe’s Hamburgers, window shopping downtown Waynedotte, then ending with 13 reasons why and cuddles. A wonderful day with a wonderful man.
Got to see my favorite player last night. Can't wait till you're back on the ice Scott! #WeAreHSV #SkatingInThePark #MatchingJerseys #Savage (at Skating in the Park)
Had a great time skating with the Havoc. Got to see my favorites and met some new ones. Thank you Tyler for skating with me. And I finally met @jclewlow the 3rd guy in our apartment. #WeAreHSV #GoHavoc #SkatingInThePark (at Skating in the Park)
Skating in the Park offers traditional holiday magic, adds concession vendor 'Mr. Treat'
Last year we got to ice skate in the midst of beautiful Big Spring International Park in the center of the Rocket City, all thanks to the Huntsville Museum of Art. This year, we get to do it all over again..with a few fun additions!
We want to go ice skating in the park RIGHT NOW after working on this article! Read on to learn from Huntsville Museum of Art's Communication Director Stephanie Kelley on what to expect from this year's festivities.
(Q) What can folks expect from Skating in the Park this year? Has anything changed from last year?
(A) The Huntsville Museum of Art and its Foundation Board are thrilled to have brought Skating in the Park back to downtown Huntsville for its second season. While the rink is the same size as last year, we have made some changes for 2013. We have a concessions vendor, Mr. Treat, offering a gourmet coffee bar, homemade hot chocolate, spiced apple cider, fresh squeezed lemonade, bottled water, Pepsi products, corn dogs, hot dogs, funnel cakes, popcorn, nachos and cotton candy.
We also have t-shirts and winter hats and gloves for sale on-site, if you forget your winter gear. Also new this year are “Birthday Parties on ICE!” You can have your child’s birthday party inside the museum and then the party moves outside for skating. Contact Libbie Adams, [email protected] to schedule your child’s party.
Plus, we are offering a $5 discount on admission to the galleries, which includes the newest exhibit Donato Giancola: From Middle Earth to Outer Space and Beyond, when skaters show their wristbands. It can be on a different day than when you skate.
(Q) With all of the great holiday events in Huntsville and Madison County this year, why should folks make time for Skating in the Park?
(A) Huntsville is very fortunate to have so many fun and exciting holiday offerings, especially downtown. Skating in the Park is a unique outdoor event, and one that our area hasn’t seen before last year. And you don’t have to fly to NYC to get that “Rocket-fella” Plaza magical winter land experience!
(Q) Who came up with the idea and how has it changed over the years?
(A) Last year’s Foundation Board president Dane Block was the one who had this great idea. He and members of his board got behind it, raised the money for it, and made it a reality in a very short turnaround time last year. This is Skating in the Park’s second year, and Foundation Board President Bobby Bradley, her board, Block, the museum Board, and all of the staff have worked tirelessly to bring this popular event back to Downtown Huntsville.
(Q) What's your (personally) favorite thing about Skating in the Park?
(A) I don’t know if I can narrow it down to ONE favorite, but seeing an event which brings people of ALL ages from near and far together in the Museum’s backyard is a very rewarding experience for me. And I hope that they will connect this special event with the art museum, and bring their friends and family BACK to enjoy not only future years of Skating in the Park, but our art exhibitions in the galleries as well.
(Q) Hours? Cost?
(A) Skating in the Park is open seven days a week now through January 5. Our hours are Monday – Thursday: 2 to 10 p.m.; Friday: 2 p.m. to midnight; Saturday: 10 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday: noon to 8 p.m. It’s $10 per person to skate with a $3 skate rental, or you can bring your own skates. Group rates for 10 or more people are only $8 per person.
(Q) Anything else you’d like to add?
(A) I’d like to thank our corporate and community sponsors, especially lead sponsor Morgan Stanley, for helping to make the ice rink possible. I’d also like to add a special “thank you” to sci-fi artist Donato Giancola for allowing us to bring a piece of his exhibit OUTSIDE with Skating in the Park. We took four of his works and created fun stand-ups with the faces cut out. Skaters can have their pictures made as Superman, Iron Man, Mercury the astronaut, or in a magical forest on horseback, while they are taking a break from the ice. Then we hope they’ll come inside and take in this amazing exhibition, open now through January 19.
