“Curious now are we? Oh, you have my ear.” Ornstein fumbled around with his claws for a moment, it wasn’t like anyone else was around them to see it. Besides, he still had everything else of his armour on, he wasn’t too bothered by it right now.
“Ayleth was a mother a person could only wish for. She was amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever known someone quite as accepting, as open-minded as she was. Yes, she was a doctor, she was a mother, but she was also more than that.” He breathed for a moment, his eyes focused on something that wasn’t visible. Just staring into nothingness. “She always put other people before herself. Her home was always open to anyone. Usually several towns people were over at our place, she’d give them hot tea and cake or pie. She was so selfless that she often gave everyone in town something to enjoy, both the poor and the rich people.”
A solemn chuckle escaped his mouth, he shook his head before looking up at the sky. “I knew nothing about my father, except for the fact that he was a dragon who left to protect his family. That is enough reason for me to care about him. If he would see me right now… Would he still care about me? Or did I already kill him like the hundredths of other dragons who were impaled at my spear?”
“I didn’t mind growing up without a dad, my mother was everything I need. Even… Even on the day that Gwyn’s army took her from me.” He looked over at Gwynfor, a genuine smile forming on his face, one he could probably not see with his helmet still on. “My mother would have liked you.”
