Wildfires in northern Ontario force First Nations to flee

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.

“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. “Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”

I wanted to use what ‘reach’ I may have here to share the Carolina Wildlife Center’s urgent plea for donations. If they are unable to raise $75,000 to cover ongoing and future care of their wildlife patients, the center will have to close July 20th, 2026. The services provided by CWC to the community are incredibly valuable, and without them, many wild animals will suffer without the care they need.

to get a Dunwall Waterhorse used to a rider it has to be raised since birth with such exacting care that most nobility can't be assed <- jessamine did this, at around 15 years of age

in dishonoredverse, horses are somehow an evolutionary offshoot of whales and they eat small children and pets if left unsupervised

normal horses also exist in the world and get brought from outside bc theyre Fashionable but the Dunwall Draft, also known as the Dunwall Waterhorse, is a beast as dangerous as it is beloved as a symbol of the city

their hooves can split open and have a webbed membrane between them, making them excellent swimmers and capable of navigating dunwall's boggy shores with ease

it was traditionally used as a beast of burden and to pull carriages until the invention of refined whale oil and oil-powered carriages

they eat krusts for fun, with their teeth shaped into a beak form+enough bite force to crack that shit open. dunwallers have not yet figured out how to make them do this on command.

they are such wild animals even when tamed that equestrianship is not an expected skillset for any nobility to really have
