Kasador - Skeleton Park

Skeleton Park came together unexpectedly while in the studio last summer. We had finished recording everything we had written at the time, and had 3 days left to put the finishing touches on the songs. We started fooling around with a chord progression and some melodies, and became obsessed with this dark lyrical idea we had which ended up dictating the instrumentation and tones used on the recording. The song itself came together very naturally, and was a real departure from what we’ve done in the past as a group - it is the first time Nick Babcock (keys/vox) has taken lead vocals on a Kasador song.

The song tells its own story, while speaking to the process of being locked in the studio together for 10 days straight, and ultimately the obsession that harbours. The process was both surreal and claustrophobic, and we tried to carry this feeling over into the video.

An upcoming zine I made about the neighbourhood park in my hometown. In reality I did not dig up a skull but the rest of it is true.

see, my city is a little special. one of our parks with massive old trees... wasn't a park. it was a graveyard. see.. they built a graveyard... and burial pit "outside" the main street. Then, then they built around it. eventually there was no more room. it was de-commissioned. more was built on it, and the main area was made into a park. sometimes, bones have reached the surface. when that happens they are respectfully reburied, in accoudance with law. "This process is governed by Section 68 of the Cemetery Act of Ontario, which reads, “No person shall disturb or order the disturbance of a burial site or artifacts associated with human remains except on instruction by … the coroner or pursuant to a site disposition agreement.”" its official name is McBurney Park, but locals for generations remember and know it as "Skeleton Park". there are apparently 10,000 dead there. last bones placed there in 1850+ and over them generations of children have played.. artists have painted. readers have read.
