I definitely feel you. Like for when I played Asagao, there was a lot of moments when I was really just rolling my eyes at Hana and or questioning her since I really couldn't relate to her.
Yeah exactly! Like I have nothing against her as a character in her own right, but personally I like when the protagonist you play fits a little bit better. Like the main demographic for the dating sim is fans, who would know and love video games. So I personally wasn’t fond that Hana never really had played video games. While it made sense with her character it really disrupted my immersion in the game. In general I ended up imagining myself in her place rather than myself as her since well... she wasn’t like me in even the most core components and she made decisions that utterly blew me away in how absurd they seemed.
I know a lot of the fandom adores her though as the protagonist, she’s just not my cup of tea and therefore if I were to write for the fandom I’d either ignore her existence or place her as a “side” character while the Reader becomes the main.
